Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that Bangladesh has resisted the rise of militancy with an iron hand and kept its cultural and spiritual heritage of being a nation of interfaith harmony. She said that people of all religions have been living peacefully in Bangladesh by maintaining mutual tolerance and will continue to do so in the future.

On the occasion of the second anniversary of her government on Thursday, in a televised address to the nation, Prime Minister Hasina recalled that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamt to build a repression and deprivation-free, democratic and non-communal state where people irrespective of religion, caste, creed and profession will live in peace and comfort. She said her only goal was to realise the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for Bangladesh.

She said that the government is committed to do everything to ensure peoples’ civic and democratic rights.

Speaking about the economic vision for Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said that by 2031, Bangladesh would be an upper middle-income country and by 2041, it would be a high-income and prosperous country.

Highlighting the need for sustainable development, Prime Minister Hasina said that the ‘Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100’ has been adopted to tackle the effects of climate change in Bangladesh.

She announced that frontline workers dealing with COVID-19 will be vaccinated on priority basis after the arrival of vaccines. She said that transmission and death rate due to Coronavirus has been very low in Bangladesh and the government is doing its best to keep the pandemic under control.

Then why is Bengali imposed upon Bangladeshis?

But the people of Bangladesh will not long tolerate constant humiliation from neighbors India and Burma. Either Hasina needs to push back harder or disruptive forces will rise within her country. I give her credit for navigating through a tough time but once Banerjee falls she will have to get tougher with India to maintain the respect of her people.
