Pakistan is also subservient to some countries...although not to India....I guess you can say only USA is an independent nation. And China getting there. Other have to sacrifice no matter how small.Pakistan is independent and BD is subservient of India.
No, they didn't. BNP had already handed over the power to their pet caretaker govt. And then Awami league started fierce resistance(violence too) against that caretaker govt and situation got heated. In that situation, in a midnight, Maj. Gen Masud surrounded president's house with tanks and pressured president to declare emergency.In 2006 army took power and dictated/ousted civilian govt BNP.
Kamal Hossain is perhaps the most fittest(not talking about physical fitness) to lead Bangladesh. He kept Awami league from falling apart after Mujib's death. Those were Awami league's worst days. Awami league Leaders were in jail or killed. He kept Awami league together.This guy was the defense attorney for Sheikh Mujib during his imprisonment, trial etc in Pakistan right?
There is thus serious legitimacy and credibility in his words.
@bluesky @Atlas @Mage @Joe Shearer
He even contested in presidential election as BAL candidate(back then it was president controlled govt) against BNP candidate Abdus Satter. He failed to win. The reason's where: 1. BNP that time was popular because Zia's rule was popular among public, 2. BNP gained huge sympathy vote because of Zia's death, 3. BAKSAL days were fresh in people's memories and 4. Abdus Satter himself was a very fine candidate(at least that's what my father says).

Dr. Kamal got Hasina into Awami league leadership. But eventually, Hasina got too powerful in Awami league. Hasina used Mujib's name and people's memory of BAKSAL days were fading. And Hasina eventually ousted Kamal Hossain.
Same thing happened to BNP as well. They got Khaleda into leadership to use Zia's name. Back then Khaleda couldn't even speak properly. Khaleda Zia in no way was better than President Satter. Yet She ousted him with the backing of some BNP leaders of that time because she could use the 'Zia' name.
What could have been a healthy democracy, got stuck between two witches.
Btw, Kamal Hossain did express regrets over BNP giving Jamaat leaders nomination. He said, if he knew that, he would not have done what he did. And he said, if Jamaat leaders are put in important part of Oikkofront's govt, then he won't assist that govt.
Apparently, election postponed in one center.
And @Skies, good to see you back.
