Bangladesh closes border with India for 14 days from Monday

If online posts were any indication for anything BJP would have won every single seat in WB yesterday and pushed all muslim bengalis to BD by midnight today. Like @Atlas said it's about covid. 10 people came back from India and fled the hospital in Jessore couple of days...Whole nation went crazy and law enforcement had to hunt them down. Everyone is afraid of a coming wave.
For the first time Bangladesh govt showed some balls and gain some dignity.

Now we can't open Indian border before covid 19 is under controll.

The bitter reality is medical service in Bangladesh is sh!t , and if Indian variant of covid 19 break out ,then even Goddess Hasina will not be spared.

Former Goddess ( Khaleda ) is already in CCU .

If indian variant break out in Bangladesh, millions of people will die.

As you can't control it with lockdown, you can't feed people with Muktizuddher chetona vaja.

Hungry people are more dangerous than covid 19.

As fast govt understand the reality , it's better for them and for people.
Feels bad man. Indians come expecting to be greeted as friends and brothers but sometimes reality is different.
You are responsible for the reality. I already said , if you don't know your limit, don't sign a deal in pandemic time.

Our lives are important for us. Where now we can get vaccine so fast?

If Indian variant break out ,millions of us will die. We can't control it with our sh!tty medical service.

So what way you left for us other than closing border?

BD wont reach the levels of India. BD has better leaders than India. BD has actually been doing better than India since last year. BD govt compared to india has managed the pandemic well compared to India. The vaccines will arrive in BD in 2 weeks and the country will be out of danger by the end of the month.

Whatever problem BD faces is because of Govt wanting to do politics with vaccines. That has been solved by signing agreements with China and Russia.

BD will go back to normal by July.

Correct

Where did you get this information from?

The most that Indian variant can do is just to reverse the current fast decline in cases. It will more than likely just stop falling and stay stable.

People expect too much from a poor BD at this stage.

Overall Hasina, apart from not upping medical capacity much more in last year and not supporting BD homegrown vaccine better, has done as much as can be expected within her powers.

BD is doing better than Pakistan and far far better than India in this pandemic, although being better than the maniac Modi is not saying much.

If the sentiments of Bangladeshi posters are any indication, then it's better that India-Bangladesh border is sealed forever....Bangladesh shares a huge border with Myanmar..pretty sure Myanmar can takeover any land transit issues that may crop up due to the permanent closure of the India-Bangladesh border
Well what is stopping you from closing the border permanently ?

Do it. And take the Awami league with you.

The fact that some of your country men try to portay Awami league as a legitimate govt in BD shows how much goodwill Indian's have towards BD people.

But if Indian variant break out you can't control it. It's deadly .

In 2 weeks you will get few millions of doses , but you have to vaccinate 130 million of 180 millions.

So before we get vaccine, border must remain shut, period.

People don't expect too much. People expect ministers to keep their mouth shut and take constructive decisions.

And thankfully such decisions is taken finally and that is shutting Indian border. Just search news links for Indian variants. That's bad thing, worse than African.

Agreed. Border must remain shut till June/july if necessary.

But what i am saying is that there is light at the end of the tunnel for BD. Atleast BD has set up the supply of vaccines. That means even if Indian variants breaks out, unless there is a supply and distribution issue regarding vaccines. BD will become normal by july.

A lot of old people will die..maybe not millions but the number will be significant...even if we manage to keep the oxygen supply to an acceptable level we still do not have enough ventilators...Buet students have developed an alternative(which apparently increases the flow to a level inbetween normal cylinder and ventilator)...but it is very likely that will meet the same fate as the deshi vaccine. Some ventilator importer somewhere will pay someone to block it...and this on and off lockdown and droves people going in and out of Dhaka didn't help either.

Doubt it. The govt's survival is dependent on this. No amount of bribes will stop the vaccines and ventilators from being set up and used. If Salman F Rahman couldn't lobby the government in the long term , doubt some no name ventilator importer will be able to. Of course they will try. But ultimately they will fail.

Hope youre right.

That is the crucial point - the old, the fat and any with underlying conditions that make them more vulnerable to severe disease.

So far no variant has caused severe disease in any more than a small proportion of the young and healthy.

BD is in a race against time now to get its most vulnerable 20% or so vaccinated as soon as possible.

Who will be vaccinated first? And what do you do for second does?

13 lakh vaccine short for second doses of AstraZeneca. How fast we can make AstraZeneca vaccine?

Dada you are a resident of greater Comilla.

Tripura is basically Bangladesh - or will be part of it one day.

We don't mind Comilla residents coming over.

But lets' wait for this infernal disease to die down...

I don't think we can make AstraZeneca...Azerbaijan is testing a mix of astrazeneca and sputnik...I guess the second dose could be shots of sputnik.

I understand that BD is following SOPs in vaccinating health workers, old and the sick first. No logic at this stage to vaccinate healthy young people. Health workers in order to reduce transmission in health environment.

Now, AstraZeneca vaccine has two advantages:

1. Nearly all the protection comes from 1st dose
2. The 2nd dose can be given up to 12 weeks later with high immunity being maintained in the meantime.

BD, apart from hoping that India resumes supplies end of this month and early June will most probably get a few million of the 60 million spare doses that USA will supply the 3rd world later this month if the batch passes quality standards. If this happens then those due their 2nd doses in June will get them on time.

Modi better, if he wants to not ruin even his standing with AL sycophants in BD, resume supplies at the end of May/early June as India then would have vaccinated their 20-25% most vulnerable and can relax its vaccination program somewhat.

4 million doses of Sputnik are coming from Russia in 2nd half of May.

Both AstraZeneca and Sputnik are viral-vector vaccines and so in theory you should be able to mix them with each other.

UK and Russia are currently trialling to see whether this will work but no idea when the results will come out.

However I see no reason at this stage for BD to even consider this as it has till early June when the 2nd doses will be due, and BD has good chance of getting millions of some of the spare 60 million doses from USA and also the Indians could also resume supplies of AstraZeneca by then.

BD has cause to worry but since it is AstraZeneca that they have been using it is not critical at this stage to worry about 2nd dose.

Bangladeshis want to close the border...people like @Bilal9 with his day in, day out racist tirades against Indians....have ever seen me launch into racist tirades against Bangladeshis?
