A high-level military delegation from People's Republic of Bangladesh, now in Sri Lanka met Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Monday (22) afternoon at Army Headquarters.

The Bangladeshi delegation, aimed at further promoting bilateral relations and the bondage between the two friendly Armies, has also expressed their overwhelming willingness to share each other's experience, particularly in the aftermath of Sri Lanka's successful completion of the war for peace.

During the meeting with Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at his office, Army Headquarters, the visiting two Majors General Mohammed Ehtesham Ul Haque and A.K.M. Zafrullah Siddiq received a brief account on the recently-concluded Wanni operations from the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jayasuriya. They also discussed matters of mutual relevance to both Armies who have been maintaining excellent relations since both countries gained independence. Towards the end of day's interaction, the visiting Bangladesh Majors General presented a memento to Lieutenant General Jayasuriya who reciprocated as a token of goodwill. High Commissioner for Bangladesh in Sri Lanka was also associated with the meeting.

The eight-member delegation during their visit to the Army Headquarters also received a briefing from Major General Shavindra Silva, Director General Operations, Army Headquarters.

The Bangladesi Army delegation is expected to visit Diyatalawa Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), Security Forces Headquarters in Jaffna, Mullaittivu and Wanni during their stay in Sri Lanka.

The delegation comprises Major General Mohammed Ehtesham Ul Haque, Major General A.K.M. Zafrullah Siddiq, Brigadier General Ridwan-Al-Mahmood, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam, Lieutenant Colonel, M. Taufiqul Hasan Siddique, Major A.S.M. Bahauddin, Major M.D. Nazrul Islam Khan and Major M. Shakhawat Hossain Chowdhury.

A very good initiative. Bangladesh Armed forces can share and learn a lot from Srilankans. Though a small country with small army,Srilanka is not conspicuous as any other major military powers. But Indeed they have developed excellent tactical skills, specially in Gorilla and anti-Gorilla warfares. More over there battle baked Army is highly professional, and has gone through all the thick's and thins in decades of prolonged war.

Even Pakistan Army (which has conventionally trained the Lankan Army)decided to get its personal trained from Srilanka, In Anti-gorilla warfare, in the late august 2009. It speaks volumes of their battle hardened skills, which the friendly countries can now benefit from. And Srilanka can therefore definitely help Bangladesh army in capacity building of there personal.



An other corridor, for Bangaldesh Army to explore in my opinion would be, a similar bondage with Indonesia for Jungle warfare.

Bangladesh Air force's 41st Squadron,which is responsible for protecting the air bases around the country,were trained by Sri Lankan commandos recently,(perhaps a year or two ago).

I agree with Adeos,although Sri Lanka is a small country,but it has one vital thing,i.e. experience in dealing with guerrillas.

Srilanka is smaller than Bangladesh, actually half of the size of us (25332 sq mi). But, you know size does not matter all the time!!

Amigo, it's Guerrilla, not Gorilla.

Like PMA, Bangladesh Military Academy has been training Sri Lankan cadet officers for long time now. Sri Lanka regularly sends some of her most promising cadet and officers to train under Bangladesh army.

Problem is Bangladesh army can get all training they want but when it comes protecting Bangladesh sovereignty and cirizens, present Awami stooge govt is very much handcuffing them and their ability. Awami stooge govt withdrawing army from Chittagong hill tracts when Santi bahini and United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) still active attacking army and people and extorting them every single day.

So as end result these training means nothing, nada, zip when stooge govt preventing Bangladesh army from acting against Bangladesh sovereignty. Perhaps, more than anything Bangladesh politicians need training from current leadership of Srilanka on how to defeat western bully and indian terrorist organazation.

I concur with you idune bhai. All these training and equipments will do iota of good if Bd army follow the dictation of this dalal mushrik in power. These dalals are signing away our sovereignty, harming islamic sentiment yet these army who suppossed to be the disciple of general Zia are acting like nazayez aulad of munafiq mujib. Did they forgot that la-hasina's gaddar father demised bd military whearas Amirul haq Zia return their glory.

Munafiq mujib being potray as some demi god while name of general zia is being wipe out yet these gaddars are hiding in some *** holes. I lost all respect for bd army.

Google is wrong if it uses "Gorilla" to describe unconventional warfare. Guerrilla, as you have correctly said, is the right term and the only one which should be used in this context.

It is great to see our officers as well as Pakistani officers are there to acquire SL army's combat experince against a non-conventional guerrilla troops.

Our officers can get some knowledge in SL on how to operate a guerrilla warfare as well. I think, instead of only a conventional military with modern warfare concept, our army needs more of a guerrilla style training. Think of our marshland and jungle terrain, and then think of our low purchasing power of military hardwares. A guerrilla warfare against a strong enemy like India is the only way to survive.

Tamil Tigers were like a mini conventional army. Why are we pointing to guerilla warfare here? We had far better experience in guerilla warfare in CHT. Dont we?
