Russia has started the delivery process of the first batch of Yakovlev Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft (NATO reporting name Mitten) to Bangladesh, reports UNB. Though the delivery process, according to Russian News Agency—TASS, scheduled to start on September 17, sources at Shah Amanat International Airport on Sunday night said they have seen the landing of three Yakovlev Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft among the first batch of six. The source said the aircraft were seen here landing at Shah Amanat International Airport along with a carrier aircraft that carried the YAK-130 for Bangladesh Air Force (BAF). The plane allows training pilots in flying four-plus and fifth-generation combat aircraft, Russian media report. The shipping of the first Yak-130 consignment to Bangladesh was scheduled to start on September 17, with six aircraft out of the 16 ordered planes to be delivered.

Has Ukraine crisis delayed further batches of Yak-130? If I am not wrong, the engines are from Ukraine.

There is no delay regarding the engine.Russian sources has said that the delivery will be completed by the middle of 2016.The delivery process seems little slow, first it was said six will be delivered but we have only received three of them.

I don't think engine is a problem.FGUP Salut manufactures it in Russia. Ukraine was more likely the design development partner.

That's what we need, more training Aircrafts. We should have at least gone for 36 J-10B's but AL will not do that.

Dude J10 is not for sale to BAF. Pakistan will be the first to get it outside China. Delivery date unclear.

BAF with limited budget will never induct a plane without history. It may come sometime in future but for the time being expect BAF inventory to be Russian.

Migs and SU-27 would be a fantastic and potent fit for BAF.

Why not Gripen. It is cheap, but more importantly built with a similar threat scenario as Bangladesh- facing a larger powerful enemy, in a country devoid of strategic depth. It can operate from highways and has very fast turn-around rates.

Comes down to money and political strings.

Russia offers easy financing and their platform comes with no strings attached. On top of that BAF has developed technical expertise to maintain Russian jets.

Grippen with associated costs and political stranglehold will constrain BAFs operational flexibility.
