Why do Bangladeshis have to be 'India Progressive'? What is our identity (mostly religious) that is similar to that in India - with all due respect toward non-Muslim Indians? Even Muslims in India do not want to be this 'India Progressive'.

What I don't get is, even after 300 years of combined Brahminical-English tyranny and repression in East Bengal - and when we got to be a separate country, some of these 'chetona'-wallahs in Bangladesh are still towing Sanghi line.

I am sure some of these Bangladeshi chetona-people are on Sanghi payroll and are fifth columnists and false-flaggers. When will they wake up? Will they start chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' in front of Jumma prayers as well?

I am no diehard Jamati myself, but I do see the need for respecting the peaceful religious feeling of people in my country, especially the new generation, who are way more honest about who they are and are not afraid to wear the hijab or not afraid to express their pride in Islamic identity.

BD/erstwhile EP got screwed big time when the newly area consisted mostly of village areas. To run a country needed significant numbers of civilized urban dwellers. When Kolkata and Murshidabad was lost, most urban people were lost. And in EP Hindu intellectuals were more influential. Sometimes their influence pushed towards more Hindu progressive, sometimes their demise caused brain drain, sometimes to seek refuge from urdu speaking belt and Pakistanis, people were pushed towards more more hinduani. Who would inspire them in the identity? no such highly placed character like Muslim tagore was created here. Kazi Nazrul was needed to borrow but still he had much hinduani influence. Many Bengali educated Muslims came but little connecion was created with massive village population. The village pop take time to be civilized but quickly rose on power ladder. Created a demonic village dominated uncultured society. To escape from them many would think India progressive is better.

Really saddened to hear this @Centaur bhai. I guess in Bangladesh one cannot have a neutral opinion and outlook anymore. It is sad because as we progress in living standards (for some), we slide further down into rule by chetona demagogues and their lapdog sycophants who cannot stand or tolerate dissent in any form.

Although I'm not really a fan of the current BNP leadership, President Zia being our first true leader (as compared to a rabble rouser), had the right practical ideas, forming the SAARC, getting a position of respect in OIC, initiating the formative early cocoon of Bangladeshi nationalism etc. He taught us how to have a backbone and negotiating from a position of strength with Indian bullies. I have seen footage on Youtube which showed him digging canals with workers with 'Kodal' in hand.

His begum (and her sons) of course managed to kick out all the technocrats and political thinkers from BNP itself putting us in a place where we belong now.
