What's the date has to do.......it's an award winner and it became more popular with tourists and visitors after earning the distinction.

I had been there in June2014 marvelous place and beautiful people. However area before Gilgit is little bit sensitive despite numerous check posts. I traveled by car first time and saw burned busses of Masha Brom bus service showing old scars of sectarian violence. Similarly there should be control on religious slogans pasted by different sectarian groups around GB area specially along side of Karakoram highway.

The area you're talking about begins from Kohistan and ends at Chillas. It's all north-eastern KPK and just a tincy little tip of southern GB. This stretch has been troublesome since history can recall. It's essentially no-man's land with virtually no settlements whatsoever due to the land which offers little. Bandits, dacoits, outlaws have run and hidden there since forever. The issues are also age-old and are mostly ethnic which are given a sectarian colour because that is what sells; 'sunni kohistani Pathans' Vs the 'Shia Gilgitis'.

only KKH Dassu to Chillas area is sensitive and there is alot of police patrolling from last 2 years

There r reports regarding presence of Taliban in area, and have seen aggression of Kohistani guy with a policeman. Gave my comments after detailed talk with a Sunni Person belonging to GB area and also was my taxi driver. After return got lot of cautious comments from people who know that area. The peace has been established in Gilgit area after an agreement between Sunni and Shias. However I still feel that Kohistan area requires more strict monitoring if we want to improve tourism in those areas. Moreover those burnt buses should be removed to avoid future references.
(Things however will automatically improve in that area after implementation of Pak-China development plan. The special security brigade being developed by army shall play an important part)

We never intervened in FATA but now require major military action there so Govt should take these historiaclly sensitive areas with seriousness. Even the hikers were attacked by sectarian terrorists at K2 base camp).

(I really miss areas of Quetta, Zoub and Loralai which I visited in my childhood but now even can't imagine to go there same is case with Karachi)


I also found people of Gilgit and especially natives of Hunza valley very sophisticated and caring.

People of GB I got to know in Karachi were very nice and not racist compared to many Afghans, they're well grounded people.

Karachi is not as hostile as Quetta or FATA, i don't know why people in Punjab think it's like FATA or Balochistan, Punjabis are 1/5th the population of Karachi.
