Going through twitter most Baloch nationalists are in denial about the involvement of BLF/BLA claiming that they would never hurt their Pashtun brethren...as if targeting Punjabi settlers in the past was OK !
But with F.C mostly Pashtun and changing demographics (which they most fear) because of increased Pashtun presence this was as incident waiting to happen !

The whole Pashtun-Punjabi elite ideal was no generosity by them but rather engineered. With quota systems and nepotism ruling the roost till today. As if the Baloch people are less capable of defending Pakistan or the Sindhis. It only objectifies a mentality that considers certain races more equal than others.

Similarly, with their zero per cent presence in the army seven years ago, the people from Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas now constitute 9.11 per cent of the army. However, their number would be curtailed to 9 per cent in 2011.

This is from 2005, ideally they should increase recruits from southen punjab to 1/3 of punjab since they are 32% of punjab population.

The Punjab rose marginally from 66.46 per cent to 66.93, but within the Punjab there are notable changes in the home districts of the officers shifting to the more populous and emerging urban centres of Central and even Southern Punjab. This is in line with rapid urbanization trends nationwide. Dramatically, the army recruited more officers in the decade ending 2005 from Karachi than from Jhelum!

The officers who joined in that decade are now poised to rise into the general officer category. When the current group of senior Lieutenant Generals retires over the next two to three years, most of whom were commissioned in the early 1970s, the Zia Bharti will take over the running of the Pakistan Army. (Kayani was commissioned in late 1971.) In recent years, the senior cadres have been spoiled by their association with the civilian administration that has taken them away from their professional roots. The new Army Chief, General Kayani, appears to have realized the need for the army to go back to its professional roots and has begun to keep a professional distance from the former chief, Musharraf. But disengaging the army from the economy and from commercial enterprises will take time."

Read the second sentence. We've a culture of joining the military, regardless of who's at the takht-e-Delhi, because our land is not good for agriculture making military our only inherent source of earning. Though times have changed now.

You are right that Photohari people have passion for army and to fight and die for country and proof of it is most nishan haider and Victoria cross which soldiers got from this region but there was also one bad apple recently named Dr Usman(Muhammad Aqeel) which is unfortunately from matore which is well known for competent army officers and ISI Generals. matore is actaully home town of boxer Amir Khan as well. Some peopel claim that Dr usman is originally not from matore and got settled there from elsewhere

Its also good thing if people from all province and ethnicities join army and bring their contribution and reprsentation which in the end will be good for Pakistan but then joining army is personal choice and it cannot be forced upon people as some community have more trend of joining army than others

in 10 or 15 years pushtoon will be the majority of the province, the ratio is already nearly equal.
but baloch and pushtoon have different geographical areas, so this will still not decrese militancy in any sense but it will have implication in the provincial govt.
the key will be quetta demographics as it is the single biggest city of Baluchistan representing atleast 25% of the population and as pushtoon majority city

This just reinforces a new quota system though, all these ethnicities are the punjabis of their own provinces and get all the benefits.

So what's wrong? I have Frnds whose ancestors migrated to Pakistan in the 1800s or early 1900s... Infact a sizeable Pashtun population if Baluchistan has afghan origin... But they are Pakistani..

But the refugees who came here during or after soviet invasion arent!
Even the Pak Pashtuns in Pekhawar or Nokhar have no long lost love for afghani muhajirs.



I doubt the tribes are going to war over this terrible incident.. Yes Baluch and Pashtuns have had issues n even conflicts between tribes... But an average Baloch or Pashtun has no hatred for eachother.. And to be honest I'd be glad if Pashtuns pick up their weapons n align with Baluch lashkars n go after these sons of bitchez!
