Bal Thackeray and the rise of Shiv Sena in Maharashtra

The world should celebrate the death of another Hindu terrorist - like Prabhakaran.

 a Hinduphobic Sri Lankan

Prabhakaran was a Christian and LTTE was based on Marxist Lingual ethnocentrism.

About Bala Thakery being a Hindu Terrorist, why not Sri Lankan Govt ask the UN declare him so? I'm sure great friend China will assist you here

Oh i just remembered some Sri Lankan Govt had tough time justifying a 13 year old bound and killed at point blank range :cheesy:

Prabhakaran was a Hindu, and a terrorist. His family were also Hindus.

No need to bother about yet another dead Hindu terrorist.

Prabhakaran and his family should have been wiped out a long time ago. India protected the Hindu terrorist for far too long.

Thackerey was not a racist but a religious extremist but he respected every patriotic hindu/non-hindu who kept Nation before religion.

Thackerey was anti-democracy but he never brought dictatorship. His politics was show of Passion & Patriotism not Power & Bloodshed.

There is difference between how Hitler & Thackerey took their last breath.

He was levels up than Hitler or Gadaffi or Islamic mullahs you respect.

Neither Thackerey commited suicide nor he was killed like Dog in drone attack nor he was killed while hiding by navy seal operation. He died with honour and as per nature's law which neither spared Buddha nor Prophet nor any Hindu Avtar.

It needs brain to find goodness in people you surely lack it.

come up with new mouthsh*t ...Thackerey kept his critics on tip of his toe... So do we

my my looks like I touched a nerve.

If you loved the guy so much why don't you take his advice?
After all, he was a heroic defender of Hinduism, so you should listen to him and form suicide squads.

And you should be the first since obviously you think the guy was a hero.

yeah thought so.

You are typical example of media-brainswashed-anti-thackerey muslim. Let me deal you with langugae you understand.

See there are many quranic verses & hadees for punishing/prosecuting non-believers, when non-muslims questions these verses, mullahs/ maulvis/ayotullahs start dancing saying these verses have context of war times and situations/conditions in whhich these verses were written must be taken in account to understand it and get its complete meaning.

same about Thackerey, he said he wants Hindu Suicide Squads to deal with Islamic terrorism (sponsered by our lovely-peaceful western neighbour). That was his style. He wanted deal with neighbour's snake with owning a bigger snake to safeguard his home-country.

If traitor-muslims starts threatening own land by bombing busses/trains killing hindus then Thackerey wanted same muslims to feel the pain when their places & public are bombed.

Infact he never did it, he just warned anti-peace elements about it & it worked. I see even pakistanis too took him seriously  , so you must know how would religious-blinded-muslim indulged in terrorist acts in mumbai/maharashtra/india would have taken it

He was not a saint he was a warrior. He was not a Gandhiji to shower flower son people who threaten us or go on fast for condemning bombing on innocents by bigotted a-holes.

And yes, if my family & my loved ones are threatened by any religious-suicide-squads, I will not hestitate to give them their own medicine by being joining hindu-suicide-squads if needed.

It's such a great loss for india, he was truely a true representative of indian secular mentality.

Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray 's health continues to 'improve' and he is responding to 'treatment' given to him, Shiv Sena leaders claimed on Thursday.
But that did not cut much ice with his supporters and rumours continued to swirl through the day.
The fact that no leader or celebrity, such as Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Amitabh Bachchan, was allowed to see Thackeray did not help.

It's not hard to see why Thackeray is so important to Maharashtra politics. Thackeray formed the Shiv Sena in 1966 to espouse the cause of the 'Marathi manoos,' who he claimed was being marginalisedby both Gujaratis and south Indians.

The message soon started to hit home and Thackeray began to have a following among the Maharashtrians. Through his cartoons and writings, Thackeray created an enormous groundswell of support as he claimed that the two lobbies were ensuring that jobs in the state would go only to"outsiders" and not locals.

It's not known why Thackeray disliked south Indians. But, it is rumoured that when he was working as a cartoonist with Free Press Journal, he was troubled by his south Indian bosses.

BJP chief Nitin Gadkari and industrialists Rahul Bajaj were among a stream of visitors to Bal Thackeray's bungalow on Thursday.

That could explain Thackeray's acerbic attacks on south Indians."Uthao lungi aur bajao pungi", went his war cry. After he quit Free Press Journal, he started hisown weekly magazine along with his younger brother, Shrikant Thackeray (father of Raj Thackeray) in 1960.

The satirical magazine's take on politicians and the Congress played a part in the Sena's rise. The Congress wanted the Sena to rise in order to tackle Communist parties and their unions that held a huge hold over Mumbai and its labour class.

So, when Sena slowly began capturing the unions through violence and other intimidatory tactics, the Congress looked the other way.

ctor Salman Khan visted Matoshree along with his fatherSalim and brother Arbaaz.

Once the Sena captured the unions, its support base grew phenomenally. This was because the unions were used to push through jobs for locals.

So, if it was a public sector bankor PSU, the Sena union would ensure that most workers who got in were Maharashtrians.

This made the Sena extremely popular.

In the eighties, when mill workers were rendered jobless as mills were shut in the city, the Sena once again played its union card and tried to ensure that the workers were absorbedin local restaurants, hotels and other establishments.

While his initial fan following was because of his cartoons andwritings, his speeches later became the hallmark of his career.
He had the ability to rouse passions among followers and also generate laughter by taking on opponents. He mimicked all, from Sonia Gandhito Manmohan Singh.
Thackeray's larger than life image is also due to his association with film stars and celebrities. For instance, he has a very close association with Amitabh Bachchan.
Amitabh has been close to the Sena ever since he was ferried to the hospital in a Sena ambulance when he was injured the shooting of Coolie.
The actor has enjoyed many a dinner with the Thackeray household. In spite of controversies sparked by Jaya Bachchan's recent comments, the relationship between the two has survived.
Another filmstar with whom Thackeray shared a close friendship was Dilip Kumar.
Thackeray would often talk about how he and the actor would share a beer together in Matoshree.
The friendship soured in the nineties when Dilip Kumar accepted the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan's highest civilian award. Thackeray didn't want Dilip to accept the award. Thackeray would later say that"the channa and the beer are still there, but Dilip Kumar's has gone on a different path."

Meinay too sunna hai yeh SALA TOU KALTI HO GAYA HAI. TUM BOLOTA HAY HE IS GETTING BETTER ?

Which difinition you want, one that the worldunder stands or the one that india defines

You have no qualification to speak what india understands or what world understands.

A country which peed on secular constitution accepted by its founder Jinnah & its throws out democracy for army generals in every decade of history since its formation, have no right to talk about any democratic or secular nation of the world.

Speak about yourself, what is secularism for you??? How do you define it ???

Guys, leave the Pakistanis alone. They surely have no reason to love him.

Would you love a man who says things about you the way he did about our neighbors?

All this secularism and all the rest is just jazz.

2 million Indians on the road should shut them up pretty quickly.

RIP

Bal Thackeray's personality and politics contained both seductive and lethal contradictionsNov 19, 2012, 12.00 AM IST

To the end, and indeed even after his end, Bal Thackeray did what he did to great effect during his lifetime: to command the unflinching loyalty of his followers, get the nation's political establishment to pay obeisance to him, and, no less significant, generate fear that turned Mumbai and some other urban centres of Maharashtra into ghost cities.

Though he died of natural causes at an advanced age, his death triggered a tidal wave of emotion that one would normally have expected had it occurred due to an unforeseen tragedy. And though he never fought an election, much less held a formal position in government, he was cremated with full state honours and that too at Shivaji Park in Dadar - something that has never been allowed before - in a relatively peaceful and dignified atmosphere.

The explanation for this bizarre turn of events must be sought in Thackeray's personality and brand of politics. Both contained stark, even brazen, contradictions. His oratory in public oozed vitriol; his private conduct was nothing if not warm and charming. He lambasted business houses for not recruiting enough Maharashtrians; but over time he forged strong bonds of friendship with them. He heaped abuse on his political rivals; yet, to the chagrin of his main ally, the BJP, he often set aside his ideological obsessions to cut deals with them. While he swore allegiance to the Marathi people, his contribution to their economic and social progress - even when his party headed the government - was, as best, derisory. Add to this his strident Hindutva and anti-Bihari campaigns, both of which left a trail of death, destruction and bitterness in their wake even as they all but snuffed out the cosmopolitan ethos of Mumbai.

It is this disturbing legacy that threatens to unleash an unprecedented political churning process in Maharashtra in the weeks and months ahead.

Shiv sena, Bal Thacekray are necessary evils. In a perfectly secular country, there would never have been a necessity for people/ party like these. But in a screwed up secular society like India where parties like Majlis can openly name themselves as purely Islamic political parties while calling even congress as a Hindu extremist party, people like Bal are bound to happen and become leaders.
