KARACHI: Bahria Town and K-Electric have signed a multi-billion rupee deal to add 500MW to power-starved Karachi.

According to a Bahria Town press release issued from Dubai on Saturday, Malik Riaz has taken a fresh initiative to bring Karachi at a par with the leading cities of the world.

In view of the chronic power shortage, Bahria Town and K-Electric signed an agreement according to which they will invest billions of rupees to set up one coal-fired and one LNG-powered electricity generation plant within a period of three to four years. These projects will guarantee uninterrupted power to Bahria Town Karachi.

The agreement will also put in place latest technology to cut line losses and improve recovery so as to enhance electricity supply.

Bahria Town vice chief executive Zain Malik and K-Electric chief executive Tayyab Tareen signed the documents.

Speaking on the occasion, Bahria Town chief Malik Riaz said that he wants Karachi to be counted among one of the world’s top cities.

The Bahria Town project has opened up employment and business opportunities for hundreds of thousands of people, Malik Riaz said.

“I strongly believe that by grace of the Almighty the Grand Mosque in Bahria Town, its golf course, theme park, night safari, university, hospital and shopping mall will bring a change in the lifestyle of the city,” he said, adding that better employment opportunities play a positive role in bringing the law and order situation under control.
