Turkey and the UK together are looking for special engineers with knowledge for the TF-X Project. As we know that BAE Systems and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) have signed a Heads of Agreement to collaborate on the first development phase of an indigenous fifth-generation fighter jet for the Turkish Air Force.
Signing this agreement in Ankara ahead of a planned contract with a value in excess of £100 Million, BAE Systems Chief Executive, Ian King, said: ‘‘BAE Systems is a leader in designing, manufacturing and supporting fighter aircraft and is in an excellent position to contribute technical and engineering expertise and experience of managing complex projects to this key Turkish programme. The announcement signals an exciting next step in relations between both Turkey and the UK with the co-operation between BAE Systems and TAI paving the way for a deeper defence partnership. The agreement confirms ongoing collaborative work on the design and development of the aircraft."

At its peak hundreds of Turkish and UK engineers will collaborate on the TF-X programme helping to support collaboration on the skills, technology and technical expertise required to deliver the programme.

BAe played a role helping SAAB design Gripen. This is how BAe was able to prevent SAAB selling Gripen to Argentina which lays claim to Falklands.

It seems due to %30 of aircraft parts manufactured in the UK they were able to veto the sale. The world has now more alternative for airspace industry collobration, I am sure these are all negotiated before the agreement since Erdogan is not such a person to allow UK to tell us whom we gonna sell TFXs. Engine will be the main concern till we develop our own.

Sorry but I do not think Turkey has any chance of using it’s own engine in TFX.
It will always be reliant on foreign engines.

Sorry but 15 years ago nobody thought Turkey would indigenization of his arms industry from %20s to %70 let alone kickstart a fighter project. I am here on this forum for 10 years, I remember every rejection and jokes from the haters and unbelievers when we say Turkey will develop that and this... Thanks God, most of them materialised. More will be the same as TF-X engines. If we listened people like you and gave up, we would still be begging Israel for Heron uavs.

You have no idea how complex the engine for TFX would need to be.

Even China that has been building jet engines for decades still does not have one ready for J-20.

I can say with near absolute certainty that Turkey will not be able to design and build a competitive engine for the next 40-50 years as it has no track history in engine development.

The Chinese are not known for creative thinking. They tend to steal and copy what they can and try to brute force improvement. Just look at the WS-10. It is literally a counter-rotating mess and no version of the WS-10 uses single crystal turbine blades. The WS-15 only uses 2nd generation single crystal turbine blades.

Turkey with easier acces to western knowledge and technology can create and high thrust turbofan engine in a shorter time span than normal and definitely faster than the Chinese.

Chinese state media reported in 2018 that WS-10B had increased it’s lifespan from 800 to 1500 hours by the use of 3rd generation single crystal turbine blades.

The fact that all new build J-10Cs since 2019 use WS-10B provides evidence for the performance, reliability and lifespan of the engine.

WS-15 is even more advanced than WS-10B.

Turkey's education level is far short of that of China and Russia. Turkey don't have a lot of good universities and now with Erdogan pushing Islamism there isn't a lot of Turkish students willing to study science and technology in university.

Bro, better we motivate Turkish do the engine development rather than playing down their initiative. TFX will likely use F 110 engine from GE after they reach mass production phase, and it has the opportunity to use Turkish engine just like J 10 use WS 10 just last year.

Chinese imitate Russian engine, that is why WS 10 can fit J 10 airframe that previously use Russian engine, while Turkish will try to imitate US engine, F 110.

Without Muslim, there will be no Renaissance in Europe. Andalusia in Spain transfer Muslim knowledge to Europe. That is why Columbus from Spain understand that earth is round that make him found America while the rest of Europe still believe that earth is flat.

I want Turkey to be able to quickly develop a next gen fighter engine but am realistic enough to know they cannot do it.

They have no track record in the field and engine tech is the pinnacle of fighter technology.

The F110 performance level will handicap the TF-X. Turkey is best to try co-development with a country like the UK but they will not get access to the most complex tech though.

According to insiders the WS-10 has no single crystal turbine blades but rather directional solidified blades. Also 1500 hours lifetime is very poor compared to the 8000+ lifetime of western contemporaries.

Let us go with Chinese media on this as this is on official record.

Yes Chinese WS-10B lifespan is poor compared to a US engine but they are making decent progress with this class engine.

The bold part is coming from the mentality, contrary to you I believe Turkish can compete with the west in engine technology, it might not soon, but they will reach that level inshaAllah. Dont forget Qatar financial backing as well in Turkish engine project.

There is proposal from Kale and RR to develop TFX engine but Turkey rather chose F 110 that is currently mass produced under license (although critical parts are produced in US). Maybe to develop new engine by using F 110 as a base will give Turkish better path to reach independency in the future. I dont know why they reject Kale-RR proposal but it may be because of that.
