Back to America: Pakistan pitches China's Belt and Road to U.S.

I have read the article and the author does not have a clue - just because Pakistan wants to increase economic co-operation with USA does not means it wants to decrease them with China - it wants investment from both.

It is not a binary state or you are with us or against us - this feels like a paid hack new article that needs to be filed under the "false news" ..

It is same as China have very healthy business and economic relations with US private sector but not so good relations with US government, we are trying to replicate the same here.

Base on my observation, the west, especially UK&US have a political philosophy that:

1. You must not show your weakness. Anglo-Saxon has a habit to exploit every weakness and using it as bargaining chip. So that they can negotiate from a position of strength.
2. You must seek opportunities to exploit their weakness/desperation, using it as a bargaining chip.
3. Sometimes create some trouble for them, and provide a temporary solution, keep their wound open/bleeding. Otherwise, it will be one time transaction.

If I am diplomat of Pakistan. I will strengthen relationship with China, and Russia. Create an illusion, spread rumors that Pakistan will import natural gas from Iran with discounted price. Spread rumors that Gwadar seaport will be rent by PLA Navy while Gwadar Airport will rent PLA Air Force. That's the thing US fear the most.

US may consider rebalancing their relationship between Pakistan and India. Exploit UK/US weakness which is the Persian Gulf, using Gwadar as one of the strongest bargaining chip. US hegemony can't lose Persian Gulf. Once Chinese start using Gwadar as military base, China can project the military power in not only Persian Gulf but also Arab Sea.

China has already built array of anti-access and area-denial (A2AD) capabilities along west Pacific. If China projects their military power and use A2AD capability to cover Persian Gulf and Arab Sea, US, Europeans and India will be Pakistan and China hostage.

I hope Pakistan play the game smart, get a fruitful result.

We Pakistani strongly dislike foreign troops at our soil, this is one red line by the common society which no government would like to cross, US in WOT got 2 bases in Pakistan was kept secret from common Pakistani population, but when came to the knowledge of common population successive governments took hit at their popularity in general public ... we have example of President Mushraf and Zardari lead PPP government in this regards, though Pakistan manage to get their bases back from US within the tenure of PPP government.

China enjoy support of general Public but IF even falsely attributed to possibility of its troops in Pakistan will mean China will lose support from general Pakistan population, keep in mind CPEC is still active even after all the pressure of USA and its economic and political institutions supported by India.

This suggestion of yours would kill Pak-China relations and China would be seen as another USA which have lost much of its clout with Pakistani populations.

Current strategy of Pakistan and China is simple they want to create the business interest of US private sector rather to involve US government so that US investors and business class could act as rational actor in favour of CPEC in USA and could act as counter weight to the irrational anti-CPEC lobby.

Pakistan needs to ask to do business with the US or US companies, but not mention CPEC.

Heck, it should open up investment opportunities like the modernization of Mainline 1 for freight services; as part the initiative of facilitating trade between Central Asia (especially Uzbekistan) and the US. this is something that is in the interest of the US government and private companies; access to Central Asia, without going through the Russians, Chinese, and/or Iranians.

Thanks for your advice. When Soviet asked base on China soil in 1958 April, China broke the relationship with Soviet.

As a Chinese, I think 99% of Chinese understand Pakistan sensitivity. I also believe China diplomats are even more sensitive and cautious.

Chinese are smart people unlike Americans who are high on arrogance and bravado.

Also , the relationship China enjoys with Pakistan is probably very unique in the sense that no country can be called its equal in its closeness and influence. Not even KSA or Turkey.

I don't know if you have seen PM Khan's videos but every time some western journalist tried to spin and wanted a negative statement from PM Khan regarding China , he immediately shut it down.

Most people in Pak understand that China is genuine in helping Pakistan and doesn't seek the predatory relationship US seeked. Also , the history is itself a testament to that. Probably the only stable relationship we ever had since our creation in 1947 has been with China.

Like Pakistan, China is also a country born from war, so China can acceptable to casualties.
This year, the explosion of Dasu hydropower station has a great impact on China's public opinion. The local govt's attempt to conceal the truth has had a bad impact, it has led some Chinese media and netizens to question whether the Chinese govt has the ability to protect the fair treatment of overseas Chinese workers.
The Chinese are not ignorant of the security situation in Pakistan. When the Chinese chose CEPC, the Chinese are ready for casualties with our partners. But please don't hide and cheat.
Discontent usually comes from insecurity, as do the Chinese people.

Dumbest piece of advice for the Pakistanis.

I need to remind folks that USA is sufficient in oil. Europeans are dependent on Gulf oil. They are not likely to take China/Pakistani threats to Gulf oil.

USA is hell bent on keeping India as a hedge against China. And vice versa

If Pakistan use Iran as a bargaining chip against America you are more likely to piss off the Saudis first
