Although BrahMos is an anti-ship missile, it has the capability to engage land based targets. The missile can be launched either in a vertical or inclined position and is capable of covering targets over a 360 degree horizon. The BrahMos missile has identical configuration for land, sea and subsea platforms. The air-launched version has a smaller booster and additional tail fins for added stability during launch.

Babur is capable of carrying either conventional or nuclear warheads and has a reported range of 500 km (310 miles). It is reported that it can hit its target with "pinpoint accuracy" and can be fired from warships, submarines and fighter jets. It is designed to avoid radar detection and penetrate undetected through a defensive system. The cruise missile is a terrain hugging missile and it has up-to-date navigation and guidance system and a high degree of manoeuvrability.

To west, Indian technology has always been inferior to Pakistan. Talking of cruise missile Pakistan has Reversed Engineered one of USN's missile which landed in Pakistan. India is been assisted by Russia in this field and the missile is believed to be one of the fastest cruise missile.
can someone elaborate on which cruise missile is more capable ?

All cruise missiles are designed to be stealthy, and are designed to have pinpoint accuracy, including the Brahmos and the Babur.

I believe the more apt comparison would be between the Babur and the Indian Sagarika cruise missile, which is expected to be tested next year, unfortunately very little information is available about it.

They are:

1)it is being developed with Israeli assistance.

2)it has a range of 700 nautical miles(1300kms)

3)it can carry a 500 kg conventional or nuclear warhead.

4)it is primarily being developed for launch from submarines.

5)some of its components have been tested through an underwater missile test laboratory developed by Larsen and Toubro of the Gujarat coast.

6)it is claimed to be in the same class as the Babur and the tomahawk.

Brahmos cruise missile better than Babur cruise missile ?

Rawalpindi - October 28, 2011: Pakistan today conducted a successful test fire of the multi tube, indigenously developed Cruise Missile Hatf -- VII (Babur) having a range of 700 kms. The missile test was conducted to validate the design parameters of the weapon system and a new Missile Launch Vehicle (MLV). Babur Cruise Missile is a low flying, terrain hugging missile with high maneuverability, pin point accuracy and radar avoidance features. It can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads and has stealth capabilities. It also incorporates the most modern cruise missile technology of Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) and Digital Scene Matching and Area Co-relation (DSMAC).

A special feature of today's launch was the validation of a new multi tube Missile Launch Vehicle (MLV) during the test. The three tube MLV enhances manifold the targeting and deployment options in the conventional and nuclear modes. With its shoot-and-scoot capability, the MLV provides a major force multiplier effect for target employment and survivability.

The test was witnessed by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Khalid Shameem Wynne, Director General Strategic Plans Division, Lieutenant General (Retired) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Commander Army Strategic Force Command, Lieutenant General Tariq Nadeem Gilani and Chairman National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) Mr Muhammad Irfan Burney, senior officers from the armed forces and strategic organizations, scientists and engineers. The test will consolidate Pakistan's strategic deterrence capability and further strengthen national security.

The successful test has also been warmly appreciated by President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, who have congratulated the scientists and engineers on their outstanding success.

Nirbhay when ready, will be a good missile to compare with babur. Until then

. .
babur copied from tomahawk.... It is not originated in pakistan..... Whereas we are taking assistance or jv with Israel , Russia..... Inferior to pakistan lolzzz...... Brahmos is supersonic and hypersonic version is also on the way.... Babur is sub-sonic......

. .
Sagarika is a Submarine Launched Quasi-Ballistic Hypersonic Missile.

The sixth test flight on November 12
th
, 2008 was a
depressed trajectory flight (at Mach 6 and 50km
altitude) with continuous rolling to dissipate heat over
a larger surface demonstrated mastery of difficult
aspects of rocketry involving sustained hypersonic
flight.

. . .
Babur is difficult to intercept because , it has terrain hugging capability, low RCS, low heat signature.

Brahmos is difficult to intercept because it is supersonic.

Never came across an instance where a cruise missile has been intercepted in combat.

@SC these type of threads should be named " I donno a sh*t about missiles, what is babur and what is brahmos"
And and "BABUR is some what name heard in pakistan and brahmos is different, why not to call it inferior and gain some knowledge from Indian"

Babur is difficult to intercept because , it has terrain hugging capability, low RCS, low heat signature.

Brahmos is difficult to intercept because it is supersonic.

Never came across an instance where a cruise missile has been intercepted in combat.
Is it like, babur flies very close to terrains at low altitude ??
Even our brahmos too flies at very altitude..

How many times have they actually been used against someone who actually had half a decent anti-missile defence system ?
