Isn’t that counterproductive. If you don’t engage with them, you would never be able to counter the partnership. Having good relationships or even a decent relationship would help bring issues on table for diplomatic solution.

True, but they have also been pretty isolated for decades. Most Muslim nations were in US bloc which really didn’t leave room for Iran to work with any. The only nations that worked with them were either adversaries of US or ones that didn’t want to take sides.

I do believe that being independent in international politics would better for each nation and helps in preventing overreaching interference by powerful countries.
