Finally I get a clearer picture. Before Armenian/Greek genocide by Turks, there was a Circasian purging by Russian in Caucasus. Several hundreds thousands got was purged (killed or expelled). Prior Muslim towns such as Yerevan became Armenian.

So Turks in turns killed their Christian in revenge.

I would not trust the Russians in this conflict. They want in and want to annex Axerbaijan. If russia enters, Azerbaijan must have a declaration of formal annexation by Iran to preserve freedom.

Russia is waiting for some Azerbaijan "genocide" of an Armenian fingernail. When some civilian gets a hangnail, and then Russia intervenes. I don't trust the Modi loving Russians as far as I can throw them.

I see, I looked up few things and seems the Armenians were also mostly favored for fighting roles and the Azeris were sidelined. This also gave the upper hand to Armenia.

Azeris let the Armenians live on Azeri land, and then Armenians started their own fake state. They kicked out the Azeris in ethnic cleansing.

Russia is responsible for the whole mess. Everybody in the Caucasus lived in relative peace, until the Romanov butchers arrived. How Turkey treats Libya and Syria, Russia treats the Caucasians infinitely worse.

one thing is for sure, on paper Nk belongs to azeri and Armenian refuses to compromise on anything, so status quo wont benefit Armenia, there has to be a give and take for this to work

second the areas is sparsely populated with population of just 150,000. obviously the azeri populace in that region is almost zero now but was though to be around 30% of populace in 1988 per russian sources, which we know are very hard to verify

If Azerbaijan manages to retake Nagorno- Karabakh(orange colour), they will still need to continue fighting to retake the Yellow coloured territory which also belongs to Azerbaijan.
