Anyone know a story about Ayub Khan during WW2, he went into battle when the British refused to go in, he was fighting even being shot in the leg, anyone know about this

He could have ended up the Ata-Turk of Pakistan and have had his statues everywhere but he made one terrible mistake that would consume him and destroy his legacy. Rest is history.

Pakistan's stature was higher in society back then , the stature enjoyed by Ayub Khan was due to that fact. Pakistan's currency was quite strong in world market

The nation was young and ambitious and blood line and people who formed Pakistan were still alive. A Young promising generation of 60's

So Pakistan really was in a fantastic position

I don't really know what exactly Ayub Khan did , if you remove the Water Dam projects done in his time period or 100% being an American ally. (Terbela Water Dam Project)

I don't necessarily view him as anything special , considering his role to undermine Fatima Jinah who perhaps would have been Pakistan's first Prime Minister or President

And making a complete hash of the 65 war in the Kashmir sector to support his boy yahya.

I like ayub khan. I believe that his positives are seen even today as well as his negatives.

However considering the political situation of Pakistan and the mess the politicians were making, his martial law had justifications and his economic steps are seen even today. But man his general resume during the period of his rule with india is not impressive. Took no initiative in 1962 and took India by surprise in 65 and was close but made a mess, didn't punish Afghanistan for its aggression as well but I would ignore that.

I think in general we can't judge Ayub Khan's progress or lack of because we really did not had anyone to compare him to from Civilian side.

Without a fair comparison it is hard to say what he did was tremendous or extra ordinary

While the economy may have improved slighly with figures of 7% alot of momentum was lost in wars of 65 and 71. Not to mention the flood situation in West Pakistan

Yes there were some Mega projects done , but the benefits or long term gains were limited

• Japan was making Super fast bullet trains in that time / period , we had same old trains
• We had PIA but we had no competetion in region we had a monopoly

We never had anyone who can claim they reduced unemployment rate to 1% and Growth figures of 10% for 10 years

US-Pakistan partnership in end turned out fruitless from Pakistan's prespective we ended up giving too much and our economy suffers the effects of 70's afghan refugee in Pakistan or war in our backyard

Vrious policies of 4-5 year period were also not successful
