Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to be awarded gold medal by Duphine University, a leading Parisian university in France, in recognition of her contribution to the institutionalising and strengthening of democracy.

It is also for her achievement in empowering women of Bangladesh.

She will receive the award at a ceremony at Duphine University in Paris tomorrow, foreign ministry sources said.

Hasina, who is now on a visit to Canada, will pay a two-day visit to France on May 25-26 to receive the award and will also deliver a keynote speech on May 26 at the High Level Panel on Women Empowerment and Gender Equality to be organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at its headquarters in Paris.

During her France visit, she is expected to call on UN Secretary General Ban Ki- Moon, UNESCO Director General Ms Irina Bokova. The premier will also attend an African Exhibition at the UNESCO headquarters.

Other participants at the Panel may include prime ministers of Mali and Iceland, presidents of Liberia and Finland, Nobel laureate Dr Amartya Sen and former UN secretary general Kofi Annan.

Hasina is expected to return home on May 27.

@ Really !!! She should be given Diamond Medal instead of Gold Medal.
@ She has received enough gold (golden boat ) from the people.
@ What she has institutionalized ? Democracy !!! My foot rather she has institutionalized by his own party member including the Judiciary.

Ha! Obviously she paid the university a few million dollars for it.

Lets give our Indian fans something to celebrate about

Hasina is trying to undermine democracy by discarding caretaker government
Every one knows how "free & fair" election will be administered by Al regime
BNP will never participate in rigged election by Al regime
Ironic how the biggest threat to BD democracy is getting awarded for democracy
Apparently Indians love Hasina more than BD

Not a single person on this forum from Bangladesh supports Hasina. Wow, just wow.

Hasina is racing to top the list of most PhD recipients to qualify for an entry into the Guinness Book of Records. She has become more desperate after Grameen Bank's Dr Yunus got the Nobel. She thought she had deserved the Nobel after she signed on an Indian drafted "peace deal" with the Chakmas.

It pleases to see how delusional Indian members of this forum really are.

May you have an infinite number of victories like this one.

Yes it seems so..But the alternative is also not good..i mean BNP..

At least Khaleda is not as insane as Hasina.

But yes, there is a big leadership problem in Bangladesh at the moment. None of the two women appear to want to step down from being heads of their respective parties.

Begum Zia alt east has some class unlike classless la-Hasina.

But yes, there is a big leadership problem in Bangladesh at the moment. None of the two women appear to want to step down from being heads of their respective parties.

Begum Zia was ready to step down and if 9/11 didn't take place then she would have transfer the chairman ship to Tareq Zia. Why Awami scare Tareq so much? Let him back to the country and Let the people decide if he would be next PM of Bangladesh. This how democracy work in most places.

But so Awami know, if BNP and alliance come back to power after next or before election then some score will be settled.
