What's new

AVIC Presents FC-31 Stealth Fighter model to Pakistan Air Force Chief.

. . .
Up until mid 80s, PAF had no policy whatsoever let alone on self-sufficiency. PAF woke up one day when our Ambassador (Mr. Karamat ullah Ghouri) in Beijing was told about no more free military hardware for Pakistan.

You have a piece of this news\ article? any link or material to read? Ambassador in Beijing was told about no more free military hard ware? told by whom?
Which incident in history are you exactly trying to refer to?

What kind of sensor fusion?

What kind of sensor fusion?

enhanced network centric capabilities with better communication and data sharing between planes and also with ground based assets and AWACS. Think about a group of three four JF-17 equipped with AESA radar, sharing data for better battlefield know how backed with information from long range AWACS and ground radars, think what numbers they can engage together working as a single unit, as a team. Or in ground attached mode, think about a group of JF-17 guided by ground forces and there own radars attacking enemy positions distributing targets among themselves, controlling and guiding UAV or being guided with reconnaissance drones. This concept will be a true force multiplier.

And it would require high speed data communication equipments. Aircrafts would be handling encrypted voice and data in real time and high density electronic warfare environment. And as far as I know, Current systems installed in across the board fleet is good at communicating in the speeds of 1-3 MB/s. (Taking cue of PTCL broadband of 1-3 MB. Download and upload speeds would be 100-210-260 Kb/s downstream/ 50-70-90 Kb/s upstream) and you can guess how insufficient it would be in high threat environment

Possibilities are limitless for netcentric warfare. JF-17 could go in radio silent, Radar turned off, AWAC guiding JF-17 through highly encrypted datalinks. Initial element of surprise achieved

But same is true for adversary as well

Do tell what is gonna happen that suddenly your Defense budget will swell to north of 50 billion dollars
You have a problem in comprehending English ?
$50 billion per 5 year cycle is what is being said.

I read about this in the following book:

Awakened China Shakes the World and is now Pakistan's Mainstay: Memoirs of a Diplomat - Mohammed Yunus

I'll try to quote the exact words but I don't have the book with me right now.

Don't trust Pakistani diplomats and their written books

same will be true for adversary as well, Always!! at least in our life time we will not get to that point where Pakistan develops some break through technology that no one else will have, if it ever does.
For now keeping pace with developments in the region will be the key factor and target and all this upgrade for JF-17 will mean, as you said, give endless possibilities and potential to JF-17

Our ambassador in china being told by WHOM that there is no more free military hardware??? By the Chinese? Because if this is what this statement implies then sorry but it is wrong. But the way you wrote it, Ambassador in China, Being Told, No more Free Military hardware, it seems that it is the Chinese telling us this rather then who actually did. :)
I hope you can CLEAR it up a bit in simple words so others can also understand and do not take it the TOTALLY opposite way.

For such system you require secure communication...It will not be possible til a few more satellites are not made by Pakistan and sent to Geostationary orbit. Pakistan is still able to use the Chinese for the time being but those have some limitations and are expensive too.

I have simply stopped taking anything seriously even if it is coming from Air Chiefs' mouths. They mislead and give false hope to the nation. The fact is, PAF has no plans whatsoever, she never had. PAF has always done impulsive shopping and almost always in reaction to IAF and that is something I never agree with. With this mindset (it is no strategy) we play by the rules set by our enemy instead of forcing our enemy to play by the rules we set. Like we have been hearing the PAF is watching if and when IAF is going to induct Rafale... what did PAF learn from learning that IAF was inducting Rafale or not? Is this not the fact that almost every fighter including F-35 is on offer to IAF and she can very well afford those too? PAF has to make up her mind, whatever platform she choses, she has to begin assimilating them in numbers and soon. I have been hearing arguments that we do not want J-10bs because we'd like to see the similar tech in JF-17 Blk-III. Aerodynamically, two machines are totally different, in payload, also different. I just don't understand how JF-17 blk-III will prove a replacement of J-10b. Anyway, for me PAF is a lost case. We should just be happy with whatever we have and pray to Allah that PAF is not put to challenge otherwise results wont be much different than they were during Kargil conflict.

Not really. PAF has a come a long way since Kargil. Provision of land based and air launched cruise missiles makes sure that actual strikes by Aircraft are no longer needed in numbers as before.
I was and am a proponent of another medium weight fighter for PAF.....and that is why i was always stuck on the point that PAF get another 3-4 squadrons of either the M2Ks or J-10s. However, i guess they want to go for more F-16s, nothing wrong with that.
PAF will got the stealth route when time comes.....we don't have 5-10 billion USD lying around to buy weapons just like that. You can learn from the so called Mother of all BS drama in India....they realized the actual cost of the 126 jets and ammunition is easily going to touch 30 billion USD and they cannot afford that. It just doesn't make any sense.
Their T-50 is stuck as well.
So PAF will probably go directly to a stealth aircraft from China. Whether that will be J-31 or some other renamed fighter, we don't know. But it will happen in Due time.
And all out war is out of the question. Even if we attack first or they attack first, regardless of the firepower, it's the international sanctions that will kill you, not airforce. Need to tread a careful line there.

Voice and data doesn't really consume as much bandwidth as me streaming Youtube in HD on PTCL DSL.
Military communications are to the point and very rigid in structure. No fancy images and graphics are being exchanged.

Excerpts (translation in Urdu) from this book have also been published in daily Ummat. I am pasting the article that specifically talks about that. I hope this will help.
