Australian prime minister to visit China

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard will make an official visit to China from April 25 to 28, at the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the announcement at a regular press briefing here on Tuesday.

China believes the two countries will clinch closer cooperation and dialogue through the upcoming visit, Hong said.

Hong spoke highly of bilateral cooperation in various fields such as culture, education, technology and tourism, and said the two countries also maintained close coordination on serious regional and international issues.

He noted the visit to Australia by China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin in early April gave an impetus to the development of bilateral ties.

China is Australia's biggest trading partner and export market, and largest source of imports. The two-way bilateral trade volume exceeded 10 billion U.S. dollars in 2002, and surged to 88.9 billion U.S. dollars in 2010.

And your basing this statement off what exactly? Facts, or utter stupidity?

Seems like the second one to me.

Australia has only had 9 cases of "human rights abuses" in it's history and most of the "human rights abuses" weren't actually real cases and were dismissed.

Seems like you are just a troll. I doubt those are your real country flags with the name "Chinese Century"

Next time you decide to write something, make sure it's factual :)

not too long ago...... Australian PM Howard had some verbal fight with Malaysian PM regarding treatment of indigenous people, as you can see both country can hardly held any high ground against each other since both are equally bad in regard with " Human right" sometimes I really don;t know why Australian PM can tell someone what to do when things aren't really that good back at home........."boat people","child detention centre" etc.

Then again you have the Greens complaining basically everything concerning China and enviroment, maybe she's just want to appease the Greens since they are part of the coalition????

The Prime Minister isn't telling anyone what to do, and certainly isn't telling anyone in China what to do. Raising issues and discussing them is a natural part of diplomacy.

As to the reference to the boat people, they are coming to Australia illegally and the governemnt is forced to let them in otherwise they are labeled "Racist" and "human rights abuser"

The way i see it, anyone who comes here illegally should be sent back.

even australian's came illeagally,to that island.Your forefather's were prisoner's who were sent by U.K to that island, as you were seen more as a burden. So i think it's quite hereditary that you australian's have a criminal and racy mentallity because your forefather's were also criminal's.

1. Julia's decision to attend the Battle of Kapyong anniversary 1-2 days before visiting China is sure to create a very positive impact. It also proves that the Labor party of Australia is and will always be a loser party -- if you see the China-AUS relationship as one of the most important in the coming decades, then you don't visit US-->Japan-->Korea-->China.

2. Typical straw-man.

Your government illegally put those boat people into detention centers without formally charging them anything. They are effectively arrested on arrival without being formally charged. It can take up to several years to have their cases processed by your lazy public tax paid officials. This part is considered as human rights abuse.

3. Under the international treaty on refugees, you and your democratically elected lazy stupid government have the legal and moral obligation to protect them. Guess what? Some of the refugees were moving to AUS because your tax payers funded war of Iraq. Period.

btw: do you actually believe issues raised by AUS will be seriously considered/reviewed by Chinese? I don't. Let's face it: AUS is a corrupt country in which a metro IC card system took 12 years but still not completed, it is a corrupt country where this stupid woman openly repressed its own citizen Julian Assange when the AFP clearly confirmed the man didn't break any law. Shall we go on? Be honest with yourself, it is just another middle east country which doesn't have a future.
