Yeah Australia plans to take on China and Indian at the same time. After we win the war we will populate those countries with kangaroos and force convert the populations to Australian cricket fans.
The reason for the big sum is due to the problems with the last subs. The Collins class had a lot of development hiccups and delays and it made the government and military look stupid. There subs will be Australian designed and built so the $3 billion per sub is a ball park figure that will take into consideration all the associated costs from the design to delivery. As far a nuclear goes, Australia does not have the infrastructure or expertise to maintain such vessels. It is not needed as the subs wont be traveling the worlds oceans and it would also make our neighbors nervous.
Be nervous shfgfa, after China and Indian we have our eyes set on Russian. We will drop millions of Koalas from planes and unleash them on the population. mwmwhahahaha.
