clear unsubstantiated anti China propaganda by @White and Green with M/S

China has world class state-of-the-art weapons systems such as:

Type 055 cruiser
Type 052D destroyer
Type 054A frigate
Type 056A corvette
Type 003 aircraft carrier
Type 075 helicopter carrier
Type 071 amphibious transport dock
Type 901 fast combat support ship
J-10C 4th generation fighter
J-16 4th generation fighter
J-20 5th generation stealth fighter
J-35 5th generation stealth fighter
GJ-11 stealth UCAV
KJ-500 AWACS
KJ-600 naval AWACS
Y-20 strategic transport aircraft
Y-20U aerial refuelling tanker
DF-41 ICBM
JL-3 SLBM
DF-21D and DF-26B anti-ship ballistic missile
DF-ZF hypersonic glide vehicle
CJ-100 cruise missile
YJ-18 anti-ship cruise missile
HQ-19 midcourse missile defense system
Beidou satellite navigation system
Etc etc etc etc etc etc

China has a lot of experience in developing submarines compared to the other weapons I just listed above. If anything, submarines is one of China’s strengths. Type 039B is one of the world’s quietest diesel-electric submarines with AIP.
Type 095 SSN will be one of the world’s quietest nuclear attack submarines.

Biden's real challenge in building a significant alliance against China will be to convince EU. EU currently trades more with China than with US and has nearly $220 Billion trade deficit. A stalled trade deal between EU and China will eventually get ratified; this will further integrate EU economy with that of China. The German car industry especially is expected to benefit from this deal.

Thus far, Biden has made a terrible start with EU by infuriating the French. It will be interesting to see if he would manage to wean the major economies of EU from the Chinese wagon. Biden does not have many alternative opportunities to offer EU. But if Biden succeeds, then it would become a real big concern for China.

When elephants fight the grass beneath the feet gets trampled. In this Cold War II it’ll be more about smaller nations and/or local powers avoid being collateral damage, especially the non-nuclear nations.

Pakistan should invest in building nuclear subs with proper tech transfers from friends.

. .
This also means that if the Shortfin Barracuda platform "did" take off and was succesful then it could have been another platform that India could have inducted - and now that route has been cut off unless of course the French attempt to fund and complete it themselves.

Germany is developing the Type 216 - Maybe the Germans and the French can get on some "EU loving" and combine their projects to produce a new generation of conventional submarines - a bit like their "Euro-Tank" project and their "FCAS" project.

Even if the Aussies chose the Virgina class - it is still good news for the interests of the UK from an industry perspective.
Agreed, It’s better for Pakistan that any funding to projects that will end up with the Indians is a positive development. The US and UK are more reluctant to share technology with India. So a positive development.

this may in fact push China to send more nuclear submarines to the Indian Ocean and that will put more pressure on the Indian navy. That would also be positive for Pakistan, considering western nuclear submarines have been patrolling the Indian Ocean for decades.

Australia has nothing to gain from the crazy project of trying to build an atomic submarine

The West Empire now clearly occupies the place of the Soviet Union: mental bubble and military spending

I don't understand, if the US defends Australia, what's the point of Australia running nuclear submarines alone?

If the US will not defend Australia,What is the point of Australia running its own nuclear submarines ?

If there really is going to be a military alliance, it makes sense for Australia to invest in its own military bases and have more Americans stationed there. And then let the Australians go directly to US military training. I think it's more combative.

Is this another story about how to make money?
Australia runs their own submarines the Collins class. Difference is the new subs will be nuclear powered.

Australia should really take her own defense seriously. They are not in some comfortable strategic locations like UK and Canada are in.

Aukus: UK, US and Australia launch pact to counter China

The UK, US and Australia have announced a historic security pact in the Asia-Pacific, in what's seen as an effort to counter China.
It will let Australia build nuclear-powered submarines for the first time, using technology provided by the US.
The Aukus pact, which will also cover AI and other technologies, is one of the countries' biggest defence partnerships in decades, analysts say.
China has condemned the agreement as "extremely irresponsible".
Foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said it "seriously undermines regional peace and stability and intensifies the arms race".
China's embassy in Washington accused the countries of a "Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice".
The pact also created a row with France, which has now lost a deal with Australia to build 12 submarines.
"It's really a stab in the back," France's Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told France Info radio.
The new partnership was announced in a joint virtual press conference between US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison on Wednesday.
And while China was not mentioned directly, the three leaders referred repeatedly to regional security concerns which they said had "grown significantly".

Speaking to the BBC, UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said China was "embarking on one of the biggest military spends in history".
"It is growing its navy [and] air force at a huge rate. Obviously it is engaged in some disputed areas," he said. "Our partners in those regions want to be able to stand their own ground."
In recent years, Beijing has been accused of raising tensions in disputed territories such as the South China Sea.
On Thursday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the pact would "preserve security and stability around the world" and generate "hundreds of high-skilled jobs".
He also said the relationship with France was "rock solid".
The Aukus alliance is probably the most significant security arrangement between the three nations since World War Two, analysts say.
The pact will focus on military capability, separating it from the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing alliance which also includes New Zealand and Canada.
While Australia's submarines is the big-ticket item, Aukus will also involve the sharing of cyber capabilities and other undersea technologies.
"This is an historic opportunity for the three nations, with like-minded allies and partners, to protect shared values and promote security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region," the joint statement read.
"This really shows that all three nations are drawing a line in the sand to start and counter [China's] aggressive moves in the Indo-Pacific," said Guy Boekenstein from the Asia Society Australia.

image captionFrance's Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said trust with Australia "had been betrayed"
Western nations have been wary of China's infrastructure investment on Pacific islands, and have also criticised China's trade sanctions against countries like Australia.
Australia had in the past maintained good relations with China, its biggest trading partner. But the relationship has broken down in recent years amid political tensions.
But there is tension now too with France, after Australia tore up the A$50bn (€31bn; £27bn) deal to build 12 submarines.
"We had established a relationship of trust with Australia, this trust has been betrayed," Mr Le Drian said.
Why nuclear-powered submarines?
These submarines are much faster and harder to detect than conventionally powered fleets. They can stay submerged for months, shoot missiles longer distances and also carry more.
Having them stationed in Australia is critical to US influence in the region, analysts say.
The US is sharing its submarine technology for the first time in 50 years. It had previously only shared technology with the UK.
Australia will become just the seventh nation in the world to operate nuclear-powered submarines, after the US, UK, France, China, India and Russia.
Australia has reaffirmed it has no intention of obtaining nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile New Zealand said it would ban Australia's submarines from its waters, in line with an existing policy on the presence of nuclear-powered submarines.
New Zealand, although a Five Eyes member, has been more cautious in aligning with either the US or China in the Pacific.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said her nation had not been approached to join the pact.

Sure they do, benefits of a nuke sub is more endurance and speed and considering Australia is surrounded by a vast ocean they need something like this.
I was expecting something but not something this big, the French raped India selling Rafael and were trying another fast one with the Aussies on the Submarine deal. Now they are properly screwed. I think the Aussies will buy a mixture most likely either American boats with UK systems or vice versa exact details are limited right now but this opens a lot of doors for other countries like India and Pakistan as well to acquire nuclear subs.
Most likely UK hull based because we are focused on building our own submarines and no room to build more. The UK is nearly done building theirs so they can start building Australia’s. Most likely US provide nuclear reactors, combat systems and weapons.

Is a nuclear submarine the only outcome? That would be disappointing.

What Australia really needs is a market that can replace the Australian dependency on Chinese consumption. :-)
They need to replace their old submarines and they had plans to replace it with the French made subs but the cost which be around 90 billion dollars (for 12 electric boats) and won’t see their first sub til like 2035 pretty much persuaded Australia to rescind the deal.
