Chaos And Bloodshed In Indian Hotel

LONDON, June 10.
A few minutes after the All-India Moslem League had yesterday announced its acceptance of the British plan for the partition of India, 50 Khaksars (Moslems opposed to the league) tried to force their way into the ballroom of the Imperial Hotel, New Delhi, where the league council was meeting, with the object of assassinating the president (Mr. Jinnah).
Tbe Khaksars arrived in American army jeep armed with spades and daggers, says the New Delhi correspondent
of the "Daily Express/ Panic followed their entry and a free-for-all began with knives, spades and furniture. The Khaksars were dispersed by tear-gas.
The Khaksars grabbed bottles and glasses off tables in the lounge. Two revolver shots and one rifle shot were fired as (lie at tackers fought halfway up the stairs, but police charged with fixed bayonets and only one got
through to the conference room doorway, where he fell seriously wounded.
Guards surrounded Mr. Jinnah. who was unhurt, but with his eyes streaming from tear gas.
Then, when quiet was restored, he read out the resolution accepting the plan. Several Moslem League guards
were wounded in the fight. One said that a Khaksar had stabbed him In the face. The lobby was
spattered with blood.
Leader Missing Reuters New Delhi correspondent says that Allama Mashriqi, leader of the Khaksars. is reported missing from his home in Old Delhi. Armed police made a house-to house search in the areas which the Khaksars are known to frequent. No warrant has yet been issued for the arrest or Mashriqi.
