At least 149 dead, dozens injured in Halloween stampede in Seoul, South Korea

At least 149 people were killed and between 65 to 150 more hurt in a stampede during Halloween festivities in the Itaewon district of Seoul, South Korea — the first outdoor, mask-free celebration of the holiday since the 2020 COVID pandemic, local media reported.

There were about 100,000 revelers out celebrating in the popular nightlife area, according to Yonhap News.

Officials warned the death toll could rise further, with 19 of the injured in serious condition.

Videos posted online showed people in fancy costumes being pushed through the narrow streets. Some appeared to climb walls on either side in an attempt to escape.

OMG, this is why I stick to small town and never follow the crowd, this is the worst kind of death!

RIP to all victims.

very sad. Very unfortunate incident in a beautiful country. RIP to dead and good wishes for all injured for fast recovery.

One third of South Koreans proclaim they are Christians, only 21% say they are Buddhists, they had lost their own culture for a long time.

Less than 20%, as far as I know. When i was there, I had asked my friend who was a Christian herselves about this

Anyway, this tragedy is not related to Western or Eastern culture, It is the result of poor planning and preventive measures, in combination with individualism which have prospered in modern youths worldwide, and probably kind of self-flatterred belief of the Korean government, who think their people are the most disciplined in the world hence this kind of tragedy can never happen.

It can happen anywhere.

Koreans are much similar to Japanese they are very westernized. Speaking to them is no different to German or French people. I often feel very weird, because they want to be treated like westerners.

To say people of South Korean died for "Western Tradition" is like blaming an Asian girl wearing hot pants and tank top getting rape because she dressed in "Western tradition"

This is really a stupid argument. This tragedy came from poor planning and poor crowd control, people there are just having a good time, western tradition or not. But then what do you expect the people in PDF are going to say?

Exactly it's such a dumb argument. It's a tragedy that could've occur anywhere with a large crowd. Eg; a concert, football tournament, festivals, or even a crowded shopping mall. Yet tryhard posters can somehow find a link and blame it on western culture. Surprise surprise, there are many other posters who liked and agree with such arguments.

The tragedy in PDF is that it's getting more and more stupid.

Stampede mass death usually occurs with developing countries with poor management control and lower educated population mindset.

Frankly most don't give a hoot. Every person has their own grief. In case you forgot, the world is filled with conflicts, grief and bloodshed.

This stampede was caused because a bunch of spoilt brats were celebrating an American tradition which wasn't even their tradition. What do you want us to do now? Mourn 24/7 for something we didn't cause?

No. Korean is much different than Japanese in the "westernized" aspect. Despite relatively high Christian follower rate, compared to other East Asian nations, it is one of the most traditional East Asian countries, even more so than Singapore or China, as far as my experience goes.

That's linked to Western culture? How is that relevant to my post?

The depraved souls. They were there for their own leisure and enjoyment. Got too drunk probably and the stampede occured.

I have been very often to Singapore it is very westernized. The west is sexy. China will become soon westernized too. Chinese will run around like westernized zombies.

This proved what beast said "poor mindset", which you later linked the Shanghai incident and implying the Chinese were the same, obviously we never have done such stupid things after the incident.
