Astrazeneca Vaccine: Bangladesh wants to produce it locally

Globe Biotech had this ready last year I believe - around March/April 2020. BMRC did not approve clinical trials.

Don't want to bad mouth anyone during Ramzan but I had some choice words for these corrupt people back then...

Thank Modi stopping exports to BD as being a major factor in this decision.
BD has a golden opportunity to become a 3rd world medical tech hub now and not only will this help poor countries but the BD economy as well.

Better produce Sinovac as Astrazenika has pig substance
Doesn’t matter saving life comes above pig issue. What do you think insulin are made from?
Bollocks to astrazenica.....assist Globe Biotech to complete human trials quickly and go to production with Bongavax/bancovid.

I can not belive we are chasing unicorn when we have a pot of gold in our hand....
Doesn’t suit beximco’s interest so probably why there will be no support from govt for that
Vaccine is over rated and not needed if you have strong immunity. Eat healthy, take rest and exercise. Strong immunity is best defence against respiratory diseases.

Awami scums can not even pass gas without indias permission.
You forgot praying five time a day to stop covid
@UKBengali bhai good news - Globe Biotech got approval for BangaVax medical trials from BMRC (Bangladesh Medical Research Council).

Bruh if they can make 1cr vaccine then we will be out of this within a year damn

It is a very good idea. BD has a large enough domestic market to justify captive production of AZ vaccines. It is the cheapest vaccine. It may not be the best but the need is not to chase perfection but to get near 100% coverage.

Depends what you mean by "best".

Yes its efficacy from symptoms is around the 75% mark, compared to 90%+ for Sputnik, Pfizer and Moderna. However it is just as effective as the others in stopping hospitalisations and deaths.

What is good about it is that nearly all the protection comes from the first dose, can wait up to 12 weeks for second dose, by far the cheapest and like Sputnik can be stored in a fridge for many months.

yeah but COVAXIN might be better for the new strains in the subcontinent.

Islam also allow that kind of thing based on emergency use, you dont need to teach me about that. The main point that I stressed is that if we have two option vaccines, so pick the one that doesnt have pig substance.

Not really.

BD vaccine will be developed for the specific strains prevalent on BD soil at the time and it will be updated to take into account BD situation.

Like mentioned by the other poster, BD has a large enough population that it can justify the expense of developing its own vaccine.

You are correct with what you are saying.

I think the most important point is that AstraZaeneca is much cheaper and it gives high immunity from one dose and the 2nd can be given 12 weeks later.

The other issue is that efficacy against symptons is 50-60% for the Chinese vaccine but 70-80% for the UK AstraZeneca vaccine.

Given a choice I would use AstraZeneca vaccine.

No it's the other way round Sinovac uses pig gelatine as culture and stabiliser.

AstraZeneca Plc, on March 21, said that its COVID-19 vaccine contains no pork-derived ingredients, countering assertions in Indonesia that the drug violates Islamic law. Previously, Ulema Council the country’s top Muslim clerical body, had called the vaccine "haram" saying that its manufacturing process uses "trypsin enzyme" derived from pork pancreas. Speaking to media reporters, the council president had reckoned that it was "mandatory" for Muslims to participate in the government's vaccination program, and for the government to keep working on securing vaccines.

Even if there is pig in it, it's not haram. Sharia gives waiver for exceptional circumstances.
I took the first dose of AstraZeneca here in Aus. Due for the 2nd dose in June. Nothing wrong with this vaccine.

We should choose vaccine based on its efficacy not what’s it’s made of because religion said so pfft. anyways article mentions trypsin? There’s nothing to differentiate between what’s made in pigs body and what’s made in ours.
i saw some indian monkeys dancing including indian illiterate media when these astrazeneca vaccines which UK allowed to be produced in india are being bought by Pakistan govt from UK and shipped from India.

indians monkeys thought india is sending vaccines to Pakistan and were celebrating it as if they won a war against Pakistan:cheesy::cheesy::omghaha::omghaha::omghaha::omghaha:
Everything is about a W and L with them. That’s why they keep taking L consistently

Bangladesh expects to receive around 4 million doses next month, says the drug administration chief

The Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) of Bangladesh has approved emergency use of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine, paving the way for a second Covid-19 vaccine in the country.

The decision comes at a time when the country is in desperate need of Covid-19 vaccine doses to ensure the continuation of the nationwide inoculation drive.

Sixty countries have so far approved the use of the two-dose vaccine, including Bangladesh. India approved it on April 12.

The health authorities in Bangladesh had stopped administering the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine (Covishield) from Monday amid uncertainties over further shipments.

DGDA Director General Major General Md Mahbubur Rahman said the Russian vaccine had been approved to pave the way for its import, production and use in Bangladesh.

“We are expecting around four million vaccine doses to arrive in May,” he added.

The vaccine would be brought in under a government-to government (G2G) initiative, and a local manufacturer, possibly Incepta Pharmaceuticals, might produce it in Bangladesh in the future, the DGDA chief said.

“Only a handful of pharmaceutical companies, such as Incepta, Popular and Healthcare, have the facilities necessary to manufacture vaccines. Representatives from the Russian side will visit Bangladesh and evaluate the facilities,” he stated.

“The company which meets their requirement will produce the vaccine,” he said, before adding that the production method was still undecided.

Still awaiting WHO’s approval

Health Minister Zahid Maleque, at a press briefing on Tuesday, said the government had given the DGDA the green light to approve the vaccines accepted by WHO and other international drug regulators.

The approval of Chinese-made vaccines was under process as well, he said.

Meanwhile, WHO said it was still in discussions about Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine and had yet to set a date to evaluate the shot’s clinical data for a possible emergency use listing, as reported by Reuters.

"On Sputnik, we are still waiting, we are still in the back-and-forth stage. So we don't have a review meeting scheduled yet," WHO spokesperson Margaret Harris told a briefing in Geneva.

However, DGDA DG Maj Gen Mahbubur said another protocol had been followed to approve Sputnik V for emergency use.

A technical experts’ committee recommended that the vaccine be approved on Tuesday noon after reviewing all necessary documents and its efficacy. The emergency core vaccination committee under Prof Kamal of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University has given its nod as well.

The government formed the five-member technical experts’ committee on April 20 to send vaccine recommendations to the DGDA in a move to find alternatives to the Oxford-AstraZeneca one.

“The Sputnik V vaccine was approved at around 1pm on Tuesday following the committee’s recommendation as we had already evaluated it earlier,” the DGDA chief said.

Sputnik V is one of the Covid-19 vaccines that had an efficacy rate of over 91%, he added.

Can it be used as the second dose for Oxford vaccine recipients?

Like Covishield, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute of India, Sputnik V is also an adenovirus vaccine.

Asked if Sputnik V could be administered as the second dose to people who had received their first dose of Covishield since the country was running out of the latter, the DGDA DG said a committee had been formed to analyze that avenue.

However, the authorities were trying to administer the same vaccine as both doses to every recipient, he added.

Next course of action

Maj Gen Mahbubur Rahman said the hunt for another vaccine would continue despite the approval for Sputnik V.

“We are reviewing documents related to the Sinopharm jab,” he stated.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque, on the other hand, termed the attitude of global leaders in reserving more vaccines for developed countries “frustrating”, and said it was the reason why Bangladesh had not received an adequate amount of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine even after paying for it in advance.

“We are exploring alternative sources now. All necessary documents of the Sinopharm vaccine have been sent to the authorities concerned … we are waiting to get the vaccine in hand,” he added.

A single dose of a COVID-19 vaccine can cut transmission of the virus by up to half, according to a Public Health England (PHE) study.

The research looked at people who have had a single dose of either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccines - the first two authorised for use in the UK.

Those who were infected at least three weeks later were between 38% and 49% less likely to pass the virus on to people living in the same household, compared with those who had not been vaccinated.

First pray that indian variants don't spread in Bangladesh. You are living in UK, and relying on Bangladeshi media and your rich relatives' narrative.

The ground reality isn't like that.

Our people have no consciousness, they don't want to stop gathering, they don't want to wear mask.

So if Indian variant spread , we will be in serious problem.

You neither can impose proper lockdown nor you have available vaccine to give everyone.

First get the vaccine , save your country and then try to become medical hub.

But if you don't understand reality, if you believe that you can be alive by making poor dying in hunger , then you are wrong.

Nothing is more dangerous than starving people.

So just pray, and pray that indian border remain closed unless we have sufficient dose of vaccine.

BTW, what we were doing in this one year?

Why no preparation? We understand everything, but understand when it's too late.

However I hope this time its not too late, everything can be managed if we can shut the Indian border unless we get sufficient doses of vaccine.

Yes importing from other counties through sea route may increase price but people can at least eat.

If you take risk of spreading indian variant and then impose useless lockdown , people will come to street to kick you out.

(For hungry people, The full moon looked like a bread, they don't find poetry in it)

But GoB will successfully supress the vaccine issue ,and already process has started with Basundhara MD issue.

Bolod proja gulir nozor khub valo vabei Bangladesh er ovijat ra onno dike divert kore dite pare.

But but will not comment further. Beshi niropekkho hoite gele abar bipod ache.
