China aired its first English language oceanic forecast in the South China Sea on Friday on Guangzhou Coast Radio Station with a coverage range of 926 kilometers (500 nautical miles).

The development means China is now able to release forecasts for the South China Sea in both Chinese and English, the China News Service reported.

Such a service signifies China's improved capability to implement international conventions, defend China's maritime rights and serve the international public in the sphere including rescue operations in the South China Sea, according to the report.

The broadcast effectively covers the country's Xisha, Zhongsha and Huangyan islands, providing all ships with precise safety information, safeguarding their navigation, life and property, the report added.

"By enhancing the country's public service capability in the South China Sea, China is sending the world a direct message of its firm stance in safeguarding its territorial sovereignty in the South China Sea," Li Kaisheng, a research fellow at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Friday.

China also displays its development of the region in the civilian dimension, Li said, adding that China even facilitates freedom of navigation by providing such a public service.

Starting Friday, the English version of the South China Sea maritime forecast would be broadcast at 9 am-9:10 am and 9 pm-9:10 pm Beijing time through the Navigational Telex (Navtex) or 4029.5 KHz, the report said.

The Navtex is an international automated system for distributing navigational warnings, weather forecasts and rescue notices to ships.

The forecast is generated by the South China Sea Prediction Center before it is forwarded to the Guangzhou Coast Radio Station in South China's Guangdong Province.

As one of the five Navtex radio stations in China, the Guangzhou Coast Radio Station broadcasts maritime safety information to waters including south of the Taiwan Straits and the South China Sea.

And you thought your boss was a pain. A Chinese home furnishing store in Shaanxi, China recently came under heavy fire after reports circulated that they punished employees that do not hit the company targets by making them eat live yellow mealworms!

One employee told the reporter from Huashang Daily: 'Today we are punished to eat mealworms.

'For every client we missed, he has to eat four worms.'

Every morning, employees at the group set a business target for the day. If they fail to hit the target, they will receive punishment on the following day.

A pregnant female employee, who had also missed the sales target, refused to drink the mixture of hard liquor and live worms.

She said: 'I can't eat worms now, I can't drink either, unless I don't want my baby.'

Eventually one of her male colleagues received the punishment on behalf of her.

Five to six employees ended up eating the worms and the public punishment attracted the attention from onlookers.

Apparently, this was not the first time staff from the company had been given cruel punishments.

'Other than worms, we have also eaten live squid and ants before,' one employee revealed.

A man, surnamed Cao, claimed that the employees were 'willing to receive punishment'.

Mr Cao is the owner of a bathroom equipment company, which jointly formed the sales group.

Another company owner however said the punishment was a 'special form of encouragement'.

As a business man who has travelled to Vietnam and China many times I can tell you Vietnam's big cities are not comparable to China's smallest cities.
In Guangzhou alone there are many illegal Vietnamese sneaking into China looking for a better life. Jobs that Chinese do not want to do are being done by Vietnamese making a fraction of what local Chinese would make. Many Vietnamese women are illegally smuggled into China for prostitution and the lucky ones for marriages. Those words are from my Chinese business circle.
In reality Vietnam is very poor and not a paradise you make it out to be. The pictures people post of beautiful Vietnam are mainly tourists area, new financial areas and rare rich areas. The vast majority of Vietnam is not even comparable to a typical1940s north America city.
If I were you I spend less time here and get back to reality.
