1. India: 69% bribery rate

In five of the six public services—schools, hospitals, ID documents, police, and utility services—more than half the respondents have had to pay a bribe. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fight against corruption has made a mark: 53% of the people think he is going it fairly or very well. And it has led to people feeling empowered, as 63% believe ordinary people can make a difference

2. Vietnam: 65% bribery rate

Vietnamese view corruption as endemic. Of all 16 countries surveyed, people in Vietnam (and Malaysia) were the most negative about the situation in their country. About 60% felt their government is doing a poor job of combatting corruption.

3. Thailand: 41% bribery rate

Thailand has struggled with corruption charges at all levels—even government officials—leading the current ruling military junta to tighten the Anti-Corruption Act in 2015. But the Thai people seem optimistic. Just 14% feel corruption had increased in last 12 months, and nearly 72% think the government is handling the fight against corruption fairly or very well.

4. Pakistan: 40% bribery rate

In Pakistan, about three-fourths of respondents perceive most or all of the police to be corrupt. Of the people who encountered either the police or the courts, nearly 7 in 10 had to pay a bribe. Sadly, people don’t feel things can change—only a third think ordinary people can make a difference.

5. Myanmar: 40% bribery rate

Despite a 2013 Anti-Corruption Law, about half of the respondents believe that most or all police are corrupt, and 40% believe the judiciary is corrupt. But things might be getting better—at least in the eyes of the people. Less than a fourth believe corruption has increased over the last year.

I recall a joke about corruption:

A minister of India visited China and was invited to dinner at the Chinese Minister's house. As soon as the Minister of India arrived at the Chinese Minister's house, he looked at the luxurious house with surprise. He asked, "your salary is not high. How did you manage to make the house so luxurious?" The Chinese minister took him to the roof and asked, "do you see the motorway over there?" India's minister nodded. "Well, that highway was originally 12 lanes.". I made it into 8 lanes. The remaining 4 lanes are in my home."
Minister of India: wow......!"

Two years later, the Chinese Minister visited India. The India minister invited him to his house for lunch. The Chinese Minister could not speak when he looked at the India minister's extravagant home.He asked the minister in India with great surprise, "your salary is less than 1000 rupees. How did you build your house like a palace?"."
The Minister of India was pleased to take the Chinese Minister to his eighteenth storey house and asked, "did you see the highway, the dam and the power project there?""
The Chinese Minister didn't see anything. "No," he said."
"That's right," said the minister in India. My friends, they are all in my home."

sri lanka is far too progressive a nation to be included in this list.

Sr Lanka per capita income at US$ 3,818.161 (2015)nominal / US$ 11,068.996 USD PPP is almost twice that of India and Pakistan.

And a literacy rate of 93%, a rather neat and clean country with small population.

Some truth in the story. Chinese officials may be corrupt, but at least they get job done, on time and in budget. In the other hand.......

So they asked about Pakistani police only? No wonder we are at number four ........ they could have asked about any vendor, retailer, butcher, confectioner, mechanic, contractor, builder, realtor, teacher, doctor, government clerk, bureaucrat ....... I am sure we would have landed off the charts.

Of the 50 plus countries in Asia Oceania, India ranks 17th in least corrupt countries as per transparency internationals latest index, same as China.

In South Asia, only Bhutan ranks above India.

I expect Indian ranking to keep improving under Modi.

.
Indian DNA/RNA, when analyzed in the lab, traces of corruption would be found.

Or may be not. Because Modians would bribe him to change that report to favor india. Lol

30% of indian driving licence are fake - Gadkari

These are too many potential killers running loose..

The new govt that came to power post Rajapaksa regime won on a platform of anti corruption seems to be even more corrupt with the cabinet of ministers being just recycle version of the former rouges
