ASEAN Defense Industries, Comparison among countries

PT PAL of Surabaya recently just launched their first ever large surface combatant warship ever built in Indonesia (before we just built small missiles boats or OPV) in collaboration with Damen Netherland. PKR SIGMA is light frigate in which being built in modular concept and optimized for ASW roles actually.

I don't think that all subsystem are made in Singapore.

Aung Zeya class frigate is one of indigenous class of frigate built by Myanmar Naval Dockyard. This ship had been designed and built with cooperation and assistance from India. This can explained why the ships had mixture use of Western made, Indian made and Russian parts components and subsystem like DRDO Sonar system, BEL RAWL MK2D radar, Oto Melara super rapido 76 mm, Kh 35 AshM and Strela launcher and among other.

all true.. Sis but just minor correction it's IglaS launcher.. Not strela.. Plz add some more Indonesian made Assault Rifiles.. It should be here as the featured posts..

In 2007 Pindad introduced early development of SPR-2 anti-materiel rifle with NATO standard 12.7x99 mm cartridge. Indonesia is one of only two countries in Asia Pasific to have developed anti-materiel rifle, the other one being China.

SPR-2 is a bolt-action anti-materiel rifle with five-round magazine. It has adjustable stock integrated with shock absorber to reduce the impact from recoil. Effective fire range of SPR-2 is 2000 meters with 900 m/s muzzle velocity. The rifle has weight of 19.5 kg and 1755mm total length. Pindad has also been preparing silencer for the rifle that can reduce up to 30 decibels noise. It's equipped with night vision and 25x scope.

There are some variants of ammunition for SPR-2 and all of them are produced locally by Pindad. Standard 12.7mm sniper rifles ammo MU 3M (for training purpose), anti-materiel ammo MU 3SAM, armor piercing incendiary ammo MU 3PB, tracer ammo MU 3N, armor piercing ammo MU 3P, and high explosive incendiary armor piercing ammo MU 3BLAM.

In 2015 firing test result of SPR-2 was highly satisfying as it was able to penetrate 10mm steel plate from a 2 km range, which Black Arrow and Truvelo failed to do so.

Pretty Impressive..!! in coming decades , Indonesia will be one of main supplies for ASEAN armed force..
So countries whose largest defense industries are
1. Indonesia
2. Singapore
3.Thailand
4. Vietnam
5. Malaysia
6. Philippine or Myanmar..?

whats wrong with u dude?
are u okay?
In case you haven't noticed our army is there to deter external aggression not to show off to anyone, nor staging circus here and there. If no external threat, we can reduce our army to a minimum, saving the money for schools, hospitals and poor people.

The indo posters should print your post 100,000 times and throw the leaflets from a plane over a populated city.

We formed the first professional army when Jesus Christ was a young man. We defeated the most powerful army in ancient time, the 1 million men strong Mongolia army, when they crushed your powerful China army and plus half of the world. Ni, we don't need to brag every day. Yes, that all happened very long ago, nearly 2,000 years, before a country called Indonesia exists.
What is all this, does this has anything to do with the thread?

BIG BULLSHIT, Vietnam spends 2,3 percents of their GDP for military spending and almost tenth percent of yearly Government budget for military. It just your country economic scale still so minuscule that you cant show off that much.
http://money.cnn.com/2016/05/23/news/vietnam-military-spending/

If those scale applied to Indonesia, most ASEAN countries will cry river and shouting Indonesia had trigger an arm races in the region as we will match Australian or South Korean scale of defense spending. For years Indonesia still maintain less than 1% of GDP defense spending.

That should mean except Vietnam, all other armies in the region are trained to deal with domestic problems, from separatists to Islamist terrorists to other social unrests. Or simply beating civilians. Never trained to fight external threat. Yes, our army is backward, but we can crush our neighbor armies combined tomorrow if we like. But as said we are a pacifist nation.

To be honest, I don't think Vietnam is in the right place there. They import a lot of arms but their local industry is lacking (should be below Malaysia). Myanmar is better than Philippines for sure, and arguably better than Malaysia.

I think we should make a special thread called "Viet's Special Wanking Off Thread" for you to keep your wet dreams on one place and not going anywhere else. You know, you can write about how great Vietnam is and we're gonna read it and maybe give you some thumbs to make you feel better, that'd be great, no? I mean we don't mind to help someone with special needs, but don't ruin this thread.

Vietnam military industries too focused on maintaining their old hardware and ammunition production. Even to producing modern assault rifles they must bought all the tools and jigs and design rights from Israel. Their naval industries is on the rise thought, but the scale is too small to producing in quantity at short time frame almost at comparable level with Myanmar Naval industries. Land platform i would dare to say Myanmar defense industries had more experiences than Vietnam in designing and producing modern weaponries.

Singapore actually at another level, they focusing on designing and investing on C4ISR technologies. Their Naval industries had the most shortest curve production rates (we can see from their LMS projects) among ASEAN countries. Their ultimate weaknesses is they are depend a lot of their spares parts manufacturing from abroad as they got little footprints to producing anything at home.
