I think that China can do a lot. The question is -Will it do?
Some experts (Chinese of course) are saying that China will retaliate few years later when it has decisive edge over the US.
If that was so then Xi shouldn’t have issued a warning now. It should have kept quite and sucked it up till it was sure to be able to take some action.

As well the Matsu Islands, it would be assumed. But, just like the taking of Crimea, it would change the dynamic in the area. More likely, China would have to take all the islands and the main island of Taiwan all at once, and that would be the full scale Taiwan operation.

China is building up the PLAN marines. An active force of over 500,000 would probably be needed to give a 3:1 numerical advantage, to intitally establish a beachhead on Taiwan. Perhaps a further 2-3 million PLA army troops maybe needed to complete the reunification and initially Garrison Taiwan to hold it, considering the further 1.65 Million potential Taiwanese reserves. At the very least these troops would be needed to maintain china’s defense at it borders with other countries, such as India, which PLA documents suggest will try to take advantage of the situation to try to make incision in the Himalayas and possible support Tibetan separatists.

As usual the western media will find whatever excuse to claim a victory for themselves despite failing the promise to defend Taiwan in case of a PLA attack.

I need to remind you that at the beginning of the Diaoyu Island conflict, Japanese parliamentarians forcibly landed on the Diaoyu Island(2012). But now China has controlled the right to inspect the waters near the Diaoyu Islands.
The Indian govt provoked the Dong Lang Village incident(2017). But now China has made the military facilities near Dong Lang Village permanent.
Every time the enemy stirs up trouble, in fact, our opportunity comes.

If they fire, then we can shoot them down and destroy ancillary facilities, and even expand to warships and headquarters. Such a war limited to the destruction of military assets will not cause geopolitical problems.

I remember when Ms Pelosi visited Taiwan. The U.S. government once again confirmed that it "abides by the one China principle". So. China used force to recover Taiwan. Why is it considered an "invasion"?

Yes but that's part of their diplomatic ambiguity. The moment China tries to take any Taiwanese land by military means they will call it an invasion. I personally don't believe in the invasion, I think Taiwan is part of China and it should be reunified but that's not how the west is going to play.
