Diplomacy is the art of balacing u r interests. IMHO, some south east asian couteries will definitly take steps to safeguard their interests vis-a-vis china. be it collaborating with US/Japan/india or may be forming a block to counter chinese presence in the region. this does not mean thay wills sever their economic/political/cultural ties with china.

same is the case with india/japan/US, they feel threatened by the rise of china and will take steps to counter that but that will not stop them to have close relations with china on economic front.

The world's economy is too integrated to desire for collapse of china/japan/US/India. The diplomatic games will continue to protect one's interests.

Okay no bases per se. But you are providing them with latest weaponry. And negotiations are on with Sri Lanka and BD are on for weapons too. Chinese dragon has accused us of hosting china's biggest seperatist groups. You practically finance the pakistani war machine. Not a single western country ir Russia is willing to give them tech. They'd be down with weaponry like Iran/North Korea if it wasn't for you'll.
And a listening post in Sri lanka tells you every time a ship crosses the palk strait. So every time the western fleet subs want to go east, they have to take the detour.

That didn't happen in this thread, but I will address it anyway.

India hosted the Tibetan government in exile, in 1959.

So we can clearly see which is the action, and which is the reaction.

Would you prefer the earlier version?

I'd prefer a forum to remain a forum where we discuss not attack.

And about your reply stating China is not encircling India, you think INDIA is encircling China? We have BARELY enough weaponry to defend ourselves

.
Hasn't China already encircled us? With bases in Sri lanka and Pakistan? And do you think we have the economy or the strength to encircle China. Or even the capability? Cmon man..

Do you expect Hind to take it lying down? Hind realitiscally has to do something and exercising soft power with SE Asia is a good move, building political ties with countries that oppose Chinese influence and strategic paradigm. Hind should work with Asian countries also facing the problem of a increasing powerful China and feel threatened by it.

As far as having strength to encircle China...

Well if you don't ask yourself this...

Do you have the strength to fight China? If not Hind better at least contain and encircle China as much as possible, otherwise history will repeat itself.

Go to sinodefence forum then. I warn you though its boring because people actually have to find sources and argue logically.

India has an extremely large Buddhist population. (Even hindus believe in buddha. Read up on dashavtara). Further, the tibetans have never commited violence. The JF 17 was built for that purpose alone. So a little strong Reaction eh?

Maybe you see it as "encircling", we see it as "protecting our supply routes".

A similar argument could be made regarding the dynamic between China and the USA.

I don't think India is encircling China, but I think they would love to do so, for geopolitical reasons if nothing else. The "Look East policy" is an example of this.

I was a member of a Chinese forum. They abused the hell out of me for being Indian. Everything from toilets to tejas vs P51 mustang.

Tibetans tried armed insurrection with help from CIA. If thats not violence then I don't know what is.

What does JF 17 have to do with anything?

Sinodefence is not like that. You should see the Tejas page in there.

You can argue whether the reaction was too strong or not, but put yourself in the shoes of the Chinese leadership.

We were already so worried about our border, especially since at that time we were having issues with TWO superpowers (Korean war with the USA... and the Sino-Soviet split later on).

Meanwhile, India was singing "Hindi Chini bhai bhai". The last thing anyone expected, was for them to host the Tibetan government in exile, immediately after they had failed to violently overthrow the Chinese government.

I doubt protecting your supply routes would need transferring state of the art aircraft tech to out historical nemesis. China claims India isn't a worthy foe, but tell you what, we're a hell of a lot stronger than Taiwan. Our look east policy is out of necessity. Is it not china who recently restarted staking claim on AP?

So you admit JF 17 is state of the art then. LOL

What does JF 17 have to do with anything?

its time for india to show some sensitivity towards china with respect to tibbet issue. at the same time china needs to understand indian sensitivity towards J&K and arunachal pradesh.

china will continue to enhance its sphere of influence with regard to india and india will start to be more pro active in south east asia/Japan with regard to china. the main factor is to build trust between to countries.
