Indian a/c has been in the news recently for its alleged movement at a forward location. For Pakistan a/c is not an option currently due to cost and limits of our marine territory. Indian a/c though quite old poses a major threat to our territory and can play major role in the current conflict. So I was wondering as to how can we have a forward base right in the middle of the Arabian sea that can give us more visibility of Indian side and also an operational facility. So I wonder can we build artificial island(s) in the Arabian sea that can act as our forward basis.

I would like to hear about your views on this as to how practical this could be and are we financially and technically able to do so. (China can help on the technical side)

Island should be habitable and supporting to be claimed a country territory which then extends exclusive economic zone.. china built those islands on coral reefs... still cost a lot... we can't..

We dont have funds for a blue water navy, artificial islands are on a whole another level. We must build up our assets and that requires serious funding. Artificial islands come much futher down the road, further down than carrier battle groups.

I hope your joking asking this question, because it is ridiculous on so many levels.
Lets start with just practicability and economics:
  • Cost would be in billions (Have a look at our economy)
  • Legality under international law if outside our Economic Interest Zone would be questionable. Don't tell me about China doing it, we are not China and even they can't stop US and other countries navigating those islands, it's embarrasing. They issue radio warnings to US planes and ships not to navigate there, they just ignore them and carry on.
  • You have to defend it. So you spend more money on air defences, on Naval assets and troops. Money better spent where it's actually needed.
  • You have now created a resuppy problem, shipping or flying in Food, Supplies, ammunion and personnel. More dedicated assets for this purpose, supply ships, additional airlift capacity. More money.

What you have acheived is created a new target with little to no practicle defensive value, which costs you mega bucks to create, run, supply and maintain. To top it off your enemy will just avoid or go around it. We as a country are stuggling to buy new combat aircarft and feed our people at the same time, where are the assets for such an endevour going to come from, are we going to take assets (planes) from mainland, where there actually needed.

Or you can buy another frigate with AD and ASW role and station it further than the usual monitoring station and back it up with underwater vehicles with SONAR senors (based out of that frigate) and own SOSUS network.

Waste of money and a sitting target not to mention weather issues and soil erosion.
