Combat gunships with ATGMs are must for Army to deliver a devastating blow upon enemy mechanised and panzer forces which may very well shorten the battle and casualties of friendly forces.But surprisingly(read shockingly) IAF is denying the IA to induct gunships in the Army Aviation Corps because of the foolish perception that all the armed aircrafts should be with IAF!!But with the induction of ALH Rudra and later HAL LCH,IA will atlast get the aerial fire power it is wanting from late 80's.

The rivalry between the forces might be a bigger issue and MoD don't want to choose sides. Another issue could be, that IAF is responsible for the maintenance of the helicopter fleet, even if they are mainly used by IA and as long as IA don't have the same capability, it might be difficult to provide them with a big air wing.

Actually time has come for IA to have its own air wing. MOD here is just waiting for IA to make teh request.
teh problem is IA never pitiched effectively for their own growth, which is long paralysed by its own bofor fiasco.

well , Indian Army is expected to Induct 74 ALH Rudra to be inducted between 2012-16
while 114 LCH will be inducted between 2015-22
Hence IA will get like 188 Attack Helis , which according to me should be enough for Army

All those people who are saying that LCH is not yet planned should understand that the Govt is not Going to spend money on a project which it doesnot plan to induct
Infact 114+65 LCH are guaranteed to be inducted by IA and IAF

Indian Army plan's to deploy 1 sqd of Attack Heli in suport of each of the 6 New regiments it plan to induct for deployment against China

The Rudra does not even have a ATGM!
They are still trying to get either the PARS 3 or the Spike as an intermediate ATGM until the integration of HeliNa.

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) sources told Express that, they as the system and other armaments integrators for Rudra, are part of a Ministry of Defence-appointed team, which is currently evaluating MBDA's PARS 3 missile and Rafael's Spike. "The team has visited the Rafael facility and witnessed the trials. They will now head for MBDA installation. The final call will be taken by the Defence Procurement Board, based on the team's recommendations," sources said.
