ARMY-2015 starts in Moscow. Gen Raheel Sharif present with a strong delegation

Gen Raheel Sharif has adopted a very pragmatic policy. Let us look in the close neighbourhood for friends rather than having dubious ones' thousand of miles away.

Here is .. for once and for all.. the Pakistani policy on R&D.. THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM THE INDIAN POLICY ON R&D and will remain so for good reasons so lets memorize it and understand it for all other questions that pop into our mind of that sort.

"Pakistan shall only develop(by hook or by crook) equipment that it cannot procure reliably(by hook or by crook) and only so if the development is more cost effective than procuring the item".
The thing with Pakistan and Russia relations it that Pakistan was the one that went against USSR in the 80's because they would shoot down aircraft that violated Pakistan's Airspace. Though at that point to USSR did not consider Pakistan as its enemy because they wanted to first fully occupy Afghanistan and then open an other front.

Today the things are very different Pakistan has the technical knowledge that Russia would like to posses but is not available from China or India and the West is not interested in selling it.

What this is? Western systems and procedures, NATO standards etc.

It is a win win situation for both and that would indicate that nothing in the current and future products that are going to be produced by Russia would be offered to Pakistan.

No, the Russians dont love India as much as the Indians like to think. They love what India offers them; access to the Indian ocean and a constant source of income from weapons sales. Now if there is a direct threat to those sales from the United States(nothing cheeses off Russia more)... then there is a need to compensate for it. This isnt Russia just trying to make up for lost sales in India, it is also telling India that if you go to our chief rival.. we will go to yours; and that Pakistan has no problem with exploiting nor the Russians in giving.

The Russian's were ill informed by India to think that if some how Pakistan can be destroyed India would allow Russia access to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. India had also convinced USSR that Indian Ocean is the sole property of Indian because it is named after India.

Today the Indian's are going toward the West, hence they are buying Rafale and US helicopters, transport aircraft, surveillance and now the latest contract for building the biggest aircraft carrier with the help from the USA. There is also a strong lobbing being done to get the F-35's for the Indian Navy.

The love affair that was between India and Russia is almost over. Russia also knows that if they want to have a secure future than Pakistan's role in Central Asian Republics would be a crucial factor. Russia also gets the access trough Iran and China to Gawadar.

Recently Russia has signed a deal with Turkey to supply Natural Gas to Europe, and is going to build a gas pipeline. This deal is also part of a greater influence of Russia in Asia.

I think the Liaquat Ali Khan incident was the beginning of our affair with the West. We should have given priority to a tour already planned and told the US to wait.

Well Araz you need a thorough read from history and disclosed information in order to know that it's wrong to blame all that to LAK and "Pakistani establishment may be" because it was not us but Soviet Union itself withdraw that invitation for further dates and later no dates been announced nor any other invitation has been given.

God vs. Commies was just one of the many slogans.

it wasn't used by Pakistanis only.

I think you are short changing yourself with your line of reasoning.

So how has this ''alliance'' with USA benefited us? Why couldn't we become a Non Aligned country?

. .
strange comment.

West gives us stuff as part of their strategic interests since 1947.
For most of our existence and until the demise of Communist Russia, we are kicked in the back by commies.

Naturally we had to ally with the West.

Please remember history.
But now the times are changed and these political games are just for a time being.History proved that many times.
Now allying with russia is in our best interest. At least russia is damn loyal to it,s allies unlike the Americans who have interests not friends.

If our policy makers (read Generals) would've been smart, we would have been able to flirt with both the West and the Eastern bloc.......we made our relationship with China, didn't we? Mao Zedong was actually a bigger opponent to re-rapprochement with the west under Communist ideals, than his Soviet counter part, Khrushchev. Egypt managed that, so stopped us?

And we are doing that now........China, Russia, USA.

Hi,

It is not as simple as that---. The choice to go with the U S was the best decision at the time-----. Now compare yourself to the 3rd world nations who allied with the Russians rather than the U S---where are they now and look at Pakistan.

Just show me one success story----all this development---all this open mindedness and freedom that we have is because of our alliance with the U S----. Same with our military----we fight on a similar basis as the American military does----our officers and pilots have a lots of freedom of movement---they can take a lots of initiative on their own that is not present in the Russian doctrine.

With our alliance with the west and the U S----we are sitting on the verge of breaking up the shackles and surging ahead. We use first grade western equipment----that has set up our standards higher---our pioneer scientists had western and U S education which gave them the opportunity to be exposed to the attest of technologies---.

Are you not contradicting your self? See both the highlighted parts. In one you say "Mature countries dont throw a hissy fit everytime their allies transact with their opponents" and than you say this

"India should be ok as long as economical and defense ties dont negatively effect India's conventional and non conventional capabilities to deal with Pakistan"

Well apparently India is either not ok at all or it isnt as mature as you might want to believe and is throwing hissy fits every now and than.

India wasnt happy about the RD-93 being sold to Pakistan and did try to block the deal but never the less Russians went ahead with the sale.

India isnt apparently happy about about the Mi-28 deal either and has shared its concerns with the Russians but Russians are still ok with the sale.

Point being that India is upset with her primary supplier of arms for warming up with its long time rival and lifting of arms embargo on Pakistan.

Hi,

Thank you for your post---. Most indian members don't understand that they have no control over Russia---. Russia has got them by the ballz----they cannot make any threat to Russia anymore because of their dependency to maintain their equipment.

Now---after they sign the 36 Rafale deal with gfrance----they won't have any control over france either----what are you going to threaten them with---. All the leverage was before the sale----once the deal is done----and signed---the customer is at the mercy of the seller.

You indian kids are getting brainless by the day----. You are forced to buy x amount of stuff from the Russians every year----regardless of if you squirm---scream---hum or haw----.

The same thing is going to happen with the americans as well----you got their equipment---they will dictate the terms----. If not sooner---then later-----it is all a matter of time.
