The thing with Pakistan and Russia relations it that Pakistan was the one that went against USSR in the 80's because they would shoot down aircraft that violated Pakistan's Airspace. Though at that point to USSR did not consider Pakistan as its enemy because they wanted to first fully occupy Afghanistan and then open an other front. Here is .. for once and for all.. the Pakistani policy on R&D.. THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM THE INDIAN POLICY ON R&D and will remain so for good reasons so lets memorize it and understand it for all other questions that pop into our mind of that sort.
"Pakistan shall only develop(by hook or by crook) equipment that it cannot procure reliably(by hook or by crook) and only so if the development is more cost effective than procuring the item".
No, the Russians dont love India as much as the Indians like to think. They love what India offers them; access to the Indian ocean and a constant source of income from weapons sales. Now if there is a direct threat to those sales from the United States(nothing cheeses off Russia more)... then there is a need to compensate for it. This isnt Russia just trying to make up for lost sales in India, it is also telling India that if you go to our chief rival.. we will go to yours; and that Pakistan has no problem with exploiting nor the Russians in giving.
I think the Liaquat Ali Khan incident was the beginning of our affair with the West. We should have given priority to a tour already planned and told the US to wait.
God vs. Commies was just one of the many slogans.
it wasn't used by Pakistanis only.
I think you are short changing yourself with your line of reasoning.
So how has this ''alliance'' with USA benefited us? Why couldn't we become a Non Aligned country?
But now the times are changed and these political games are just for a time being.History proved that many times.strange comment.
West gives us stuff as part of their strategic interests since 1947.
For most of our existence and until the demise of Communist Russia, we are kicked in the back by commies.
Naturally we had to ally with the West.
Please remember history.
If our policy makers (read Generals) would've been smart, we would have been able to flirt with both the West and the Eastern bloc.......we made our relationship with China, didn't we? Mao Zedong was actually a bigger opponent to re-rapprochement with the west under Communist ideals, than his Soviet counter part, Khrushchev. Egypt managed that, so stopped us?
And we are doing that now........China, Russia, USA.
Are you not contradicting your self? See both the highlighted parts. In one you say "Mature countries dont throw a hissy fit everytime their allies transact with their opponents" and than you say this
"India should be ok as long as economical and defense ties dont negatively effect India's conventional and non conventional capabilities to deal with Pakistan"
Well apparently India is either not ok at all or it isnt as mature as you might want to believe and is throwing hissy fits every now and than.
India wasnt happy about the RD-93 being sold to Pakistan and did try to block the deal but never the less Russians went ahead with the sale.
India isnt apparently happy about about the Mi-28 deal either and has shared its concerns with the Russians but Russians are still ok with the sale.
Point being that India is upset with her primary supplier of arms for warming up with its long time rival and lifting of arms embargo on Pakistan.
......At least russia is damn loyal .....
