Arjun Tank to Target Russian T55 Today

Let me burst the bubble..

Even the new so called improved round maxes out at 300mm frontal penetration hence the poor old t-55 was selected as the punching bag. Funnily, they are still shaky about the results.
Test should be conducted on modified T55 with ERA plates and I think they will put ERA plates on T55 to check the lethality otherwise it will just show off.

.
T55 in this case is just crap metal. The word "T55" serves nothing but some stirring up some sensation.

I think we are conducting such a test to measure the Impact or something like that

Bubble buster uncle is back
On a more serious note I think that the scientist working on this have modified the T-55 to test the ammo

For real measure, better use a piece of solid metal or some tanks that are more likely to encounter in battle field.

.
Lol.. When an anti ship Missile is tested against a Decommissioned Ship, the world over accept the validations and study the results obtained, though there have been significant improvements on armor used in modern day ships. Yet some people cannot digest when Arjun has decided to test its newly acquired capability against a decommissioned tank.

The tank could be a captured T 59 from 1971.

In case you don't know, no armor of modern ships can survive a hit from anti-ship missile. Heck, not even survive a modern torpedo attack. But armor on modern tank could. For attacking a ship, the goal is to hit the target. For attacking a tank, the goal is to hit the target AND penetrate the armor.

I think they wanted to test it on a real thing

@DESERT FIGHTER
1. India has a total of 2011 T90s on order.
( 310 T90S in 2001 + 330 T90 M in 2006 + 347 T90 M in 2007 + 1000 more tanks to be produced till 2020 ( Production rights acquired )) + 354 tanks more will be procured for India Tibet border.

So 2011+ 354 = 2,365 T90 tanks .
Out of these 1,300 Have already been inducted.

2. T72s
968 T72 tanks have been upgraded till now and a new tender to upgrade further 1000 has been issued. Around 300 more T72s (older ones ) will not be upgraded and will be either scrapped or concerted into various Engineering support vehicles. 2,418 Thanks were procured in total.

Arjun MBT program
1. 124 Arjun Mk1 produced + 118 Mk2 ( 40 already produced ) .A good show guarantees 2 More Arjun regiments to be ordered, meaning around 110 More.
Fanboy .. India hope to have 1300 T-9's till 2020... Till 2015 it had around 500 in service !
T-72s are already screwed.
Arjun MKII (which is supposed to be a less problem probe Arjun MKI) has already been delayed further... Meanwhile the original fleet remains grounded !!!

And to top it all ... India doesn't produce modern & effective ammunition/rounds.. And it's fleet T-72 fleet also remains problematic with burst barrels and night blindness.

Due to the repeated delays, India decided to acquire T-90s main battle tanks from Russia in the early 2000s. While the first 310 were directly imported from Russia, India is currently locally producing a customized and improved version of the T-90, the T-90 M Bhishma. As of now, a grand total of 500 T-90 and T-90 M tanks are operated by the Indian Army.

India plans to field 21 tank regiments of T-90s by 2020 through license-production, with 62 tanks per unit and more than 1,300 armored fighting vehicles total, although that number could go up .

You haven't hit puberty have you?
Analyse with instruments on a "live" tank the result of possible "new" ammunition for r'n'd.
Means their producing something new.
Propellent/explosives come in different flavors, each country, manufacturing base hase their own "unique" flavour because industry costs. Chemical eng. could explain why RnD is important for them especially since what the do is "COOK".
And a good chef tastes what he is making!

Test with instruments the result inside the T-55 is meaningful. Era or no era.
No amount of money being claimed on the test, would be for showing off unlike India's neighbour with Napoleon complex.
For real measure, better use a piece of solid metal or some tanks that are more likely to encounter in battle field.

Again, if the round penetrates the tank, and comes out the other end, NO PROBLEM.
During the 1990's the sabot rounds, went straight through a T-55 last time.
What they are testing is thermobaric? round or new propellent.
You should actually read the article first before posting.

Lies. The USN Carriers need atleast 6 Onix hits to get the Captian to abandon ship. 2 atleast to mission kill it.

WTF? Your both fanboys.
How to you attend to get your Chinese tanks across the rivers and canals?
How to the Indians?
The Indians are not concerned it seems even though the IA benefits from boasting Pakistani threat!
I just learned that Arjun MKII costs more than twice of Type 99, according to this page: Top 10 Modern Battle Tanks By Price - TheRichest

Source: Arjun Tank to Target Russian T55 Today | Page 3
Out dated. Type 99 is cheaper, but that German MTU engine costs the same for both tanks! Hence the price and size similarity.
But the Arjun is second assembly line to the T-90. Hence will a different evolution of its industrial design.
