Argentina Considering To Purchase 12 JF17C Worth 664Million Dollars

Entirely possible. If they want any decent BVR abilities though they have to go with Block III. Tejas will have Astra, but I am not sure it could be deployed as quickly and in sufficient numbers. Mig-35 is saddled with R-77 and there is no way the F-16 will come with anything more sophisticated than AIM-7 if Egypt and Indonesia couldn't get AIM-120.

Indonesia could get AMRAMM after we bought 24 refurbished and upgraded F16 C/D Block 52) and our old 10 F16 A/B is also being upgraded since 2018 and 5 of them now can launch AMRAMM, another 5 planes still undergoing refurbished and upgrade program in Indonesia with LM supervision

F-16 fighter is without a doubt to pick and best compared to All mentioned fighters as per the requirements.

The picture is the report of the Argentine military. This mentioned the requirements of this procurement plan and the candidate fighters.

The requirements of the Argentine military are multi-purpose capability, supersonic flight capability, air refueling capability compatible with the Argentine Air Force tanker, AESA radar, tactical data link, electronic self-defence capability, etc., and the components originating in the UK are not allowed.

Candidate models include JF-17, F-16, Tejas and MIG-35. The hourly operation cost of each aircraft in the report is: JF-17 is 7600 dollars/hour, F-16 is 10000 dollars/hour, Tejas is 12000 dollars/hour, and MIG-35 is 18000 dollars/hour.

The report mentioned that the operating cost of JF-17 is the best, the engine will use WS-13E, the ejection seat will not use Martin Baker, and the aircraft and weapons can be completely produced by Chinese manufacturers.

What surprised me was that the Argentine military chose WS-13E.

This is both a danger and an opportunity for China's aviation industry. The WS-13E has not been used in mature fighters, and we are not clear about its status.

The JF-17 is a single engine fighter. If the WS-13E fails, the whole aircraft will be at great risk. If a major accident occurs due to WS-13E, it will be a major blow to the reputation of Chinese engines. So that means a lot of risk. Similarly, this is a great opportunity.

If WS-13E can operate well, there will be no major accident. Then this will be the best advertisement for Chinese engines.

BTW: The next biggest mystery is whether China sold the PL-15E to the Argentine Air Force

Why would J-35 choose WS-13E instead of RD-33/93, before WS-19 is ready?
Or is PLAN out of mind?

The J-35 is a twin engine fighter. It has the ability to take risks.

WS-10 is also first used for twin engine fighter J11B, and then used for single engine fighter J10C.

Why is J-15 still using AL31F engines?

And both of J-35 and J-15 are carrier-based fighters.

. . .
If so, it ALSO means WS-13E can be trusted by PLAN and SAC.
The first batch of J-10C appeared in 2017, which marks the complete maturity of WS-10. The early J-15 was commissioned in 2015, so it is normal for the early J-15 to use AL-31F-M1.

You're right. If PLAN lists the security level of J-15T above J-10C, it indicates that the WS-13E used by J-35 has been trusted by PLAN.

BTW: I also hope that the WS-13E is fully mature and can be safely used for single engine fighters.

Thanks for the information. Looks I was ignorant. But my old point still stands to an extent. I don’t think that Argentina would get the greatest and latest BVR from the F-16 deal. Britain will not allow it.

Indonesia gets its AMRAAM is just recent phenomenon. We have had F 16 A/B since 1989 and gets first approval for AIM 120 C 7 is in 2016, despite I believe the approval has been given since 2011 when Obama administration propose the sell of 24 refurbished and upgraded F 16 C/D to us. We get cheap F 16 and it was under Obama administration where basically he is close to Indonesia seeing his life history, geopolitically Indonesia is also getting more important for US geopolitical interest after 2005.

Indonesia is not first tier US ally, this is why we cannot get F 35 despite our government had asked for it. That is Indonesian limit under current geopolitics context.

Hi,

Even if the argentinians get the latest BVR for the F-16's---it would be worthless. UK will get the tactical information / codes to negate it just like they got for the Exocet.

You bring up a good point. The UK government would know the flight envelope of AIM-120 and the US will sell them jammers/self protection suite that could defeat the missile.
