The Argentine Navy has begun a service-life extension programme for its four Lockheed Martin P-3B Orion maritime patrol fleet.

The first P-3B (serial 6-P-56) was delivered to Fábrica Argentina de Aviones (FAdeA) Brigadier San Martin on 27 April, according to a navy announcement issued several days later. The aircraft is to operate for another 15 years after its modernisation programme, the service said.

The programme includes a comprehensive structural revision and integration of new ISR sensors. According to local sources, Argentine automobile component manufacturer Prodismo has supplied FAdeA with specialised equipment to remanufacture wing components.

State-run company INVAP is expected to integrate its Image Acquisition System (Sistema de Adquisición de Imágenes: SAI), and EO-surveillance system composed of a panoramic, night-vision, and long-range cameras coupled to a laser rangefinder.
