^^ Indian babus are pretty cunning in this regard. Though we are importing top of the line US stuff but we are not a signatory to any of those binding agreements that US makes its client sign upon. India refused to sign CISMOA, and made the US remove all the comm equipment, even IFF from all the hardware we bought, so that US cant employ those "kill switches" in case of a war. I am sure they are equally cautious in future JV's as well.
The amount of R & D US invests in their defense industry is un-paralleled, we can only learn from them even if they make us a minor partner. India must make sure that all the R & D is done here in India only and not like the Tejas experience where they didnt even allow the Indian part of the research to be taken back.

Have faith in God but keep your powder dry .. Im all in for any kind of technological help India can lay hands on atm.

I would prefer upgrading ties with Russia and Israel instead.
