Are we seeing the reemergence of Soviet Union?

Return of Soviet? LOL!

Take the R Out of BRIC | Foreign Policy

...Does Russia really deserve to be a BRIC? The country's economic performance has plummeted to such a dismal level that one must ask whether it is entitled to have any say at all on the global economy, compared with the other, more functional members of its cohort.

Without money, you can't do anything. This is why the Soviet fell in the first place.

Agreed. They spent way too much on something as trivial as another developing country. Perhaps the first power in history that killed itself for another alien, underdeveloped country.

Soviet doctrine seriously amazes me sometimes.

Strange...Because according to Marx, in the ideal communist society...

Critique of the Gotha Programme-- I
In a higher phase of communist society, after the enslaving subordination of the individual to the division of labor, and therewith also the antithesis between mental and physical labor, has vanished; after labor has become not only a means of life but life's prime want; after the productive forces have also increased with the all-around development of the individual, and all the springs of co-operative wealth flow more abundantly -- only then then can the narrow horizon of bourgeois right be crossed in its entirety and society inscribe on its banners: From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs!
There would be no need for something as contemptuous as 'money'. Everyone would 'labor' at his best and would request from the state only the minimum necessary for his existence.

Russia was always a good nation just western media made it into something it was not and with unjust sanctions , now Russia is stronger then ever and I feel our nation should cooperate with Russia as they are more reliable vs US

Was it because they supported the Arabs instead of the Israelis during the Arab-Israeli wars that they are suddenly "friends of Islam"

Just because America and the West proved evil doesn't mean the USSR was any lesser evil. Remember USSR was a strong Indian supporter.

Anything which is free, fair and justified will survive.

Operession bought end of soviet union. Stalin great purges alone killed more russians than WW2 including many qualified people as scientest, doctors, etc etc

One thing history has taught us is that any nation that has gone up ...infact let me correct this any civilization that has gone up against Russia has suffered big time losses the stats are in Russian favor.

We need to be supercareful , an expansion with Russia would be beneficial for Pakistan in long run

Natan Sharansky once wrote that the thing about Russians is that the stronger the State is, the stronger the individual Russian feels. So I don't think we'll see the Soviet Union, but the push to return to a Russian Empire, through subversion or aggression, is not out of the question.

Moscow was never our enemy, we made it our enemy in the love of the USA and the West. Throughout the 50s and in the early 60s, the India-USSR relationships were not extremely cordial as India was a leader of the Non-Align Movement. With the same token, USSR was not the enemy of Pakistan but when our imposed rulers aligned themselves with the anti-communist capitalist West/USA, and signed up useless treaties such as SEATO/CENTO, and allowed the US to operate U-2 spy planes from Pakistani soil, only than the former USSR started taking us her enemy. Even than, Moscow helped us erect our first and only Steel Mill complex (Pakistan Steel) in 70s during the time of PM Bhutto. As soon as the Dictator Zia overthrew the Bhutto's democratically elected government, we fell back in the lap of the USA and got ourself involved in the US's proxy war against the Soviet Union in the Afghanistan. This is mind boggling that our ignorant rulers (with the exception of Mr. Bhutto) never worked on improving relations with a geographically close and a mighty power and decided to sleep with a faraway and extremely unreliable USA.

Perhaps Zia balked at the Soviets due to the collective experience of the Daoud and Taraki-Amin regime next door OR he may have been dissuaded by the poor economic state of East Germany and other Soviet allies after all the Soviets provided very little in terms of trade and other economic benefits (ask the Indians). Had Pakistan allied with the Soviets in the late 70’s it may have likely resulted in the balkanization of Pakistan by India, Iran and USSR.

Soviet Russia never came to accecpt Pakistan existence, it saw it as a legacy of Ottoman-Turkey which it was a bitter enemy of. Raoud alignment of Pakistan wth west in the growing soviet clout further angered the union against this "cancer". Soviet union had expansion aim in central asia and India in south asia. Both were rigidly aligned allies. They posed a very real threat of cornering Pakistan from both sides, timely uncovered by CIA and US gave use a secret but tactic approval to build nukes.

Pakistan always tried to stay neutral and make good releations with soviet union however when USSR provided aid and arms to Pakistan it greatly burned India and a wave of tasteless protest ended that with angered Pakistani administration. Soviet anger was again heightened when Pakistan established out of norm ties with red-china which the soviet were in some kind of disaggrement. The soviets were bully and wanted to dicate wanting to dictate every aspect of our politics as well forcing us in the lap of their bigger ally India.

The soviet economy largely religed on raw materials, oil and gas hence they wanted access to warm waters for marketing their produce as well project their power to middle eastern countries. The indians wanted cheap share of energy from central asia.

Bhutto somehow fell under heavy soviet influence and caused the worst economic blunders in Pakistani history. All in all, Soviet policies were reminicent of imperal age which did not sit well with our freedom mindness. As well soviet union was a failing empire and we should be happy for not being on wrong side of history. The soviet no wonder excel impressively in science and technology however west remained the house of industrial might and Pakistan as a small nation had to maintain qualitive over quantative advantage.

America has proven to be really trustable ally at time and 180 degree turn at time. Depends on who has got the chair in white house but partly due to our "ummah" type polcies as well where we tried to cross their intrests by biting their hand.
