Are Saudi husbands men or sheep?

I have noticed recently that many young women describe men, who are obedient and romantic with their wives, as sheep. Sheep are led around by a shepherd from one place to another without objection – hence, the similarity. Sheep are not as stubborn as mules, nor are they as cunning as foxes, stupid as ostriches or lazy as lions.
We complain all the time about Saudi men who treat women harshly. But when men are romantic, why are they described as being meek and obedient?
Many men in our society use a double-standard in the way that they deal with their wives. They tend to act as stern husbands in public places, especially in front of family members. But when they are alone with their wives, they treat them nicely and show great consideration. They resort to this hypocrisy because they do not want to be described as sheep. They don’t want people to say that they are under their wife’s thumb or that they are not masculine enough.
This is beyond me. I don’t understand people who want men to be fair, nice and considerate to women in a society replete with complicated traditions but at the same time want men also to be unkind to and stern with their wives. Those people do not want a husband to open the door for his wife, carry the baby for her or pick her up at night from a wedding hall instead of sending the driver. Those people want men to be more domineering, controlling and stern. They want them to beat their wives if necessary, so that women will never rise and have the upper hand over men.
So, it all boils down to authority and control. I don’t understand how a man can hide his love for his wife and not reveal it to the woman who is spending most of her time taking care of his children. Life is a responsibility. When a man marries, he starts a new life. He, his wife and children will all be partners in building a strong society.
