i was in medina and i told their religious police guy off by yelling at him. that was fun, he backed off.this happened in the prophet's mosque. it was fun. this was a couple of months ago.

What songs? If you are referring to naats then the proper terminology should be hymns. I don't think that is specific to Pakistan and are also sung by Arabs. What parades and "stuff"?

sorry for the wrong nomenclature.

nasheeds Songs poetry.

Parades are almost monthly occurences celebrating Festivals and Saints etc

.
The average Arab doesn't sing those. No clue about the average Pakistani*
The average Pakistani does not sing it either but it is cultural. This is perhaps where the difference comes in. NaatKhawan were kids (young adults) who would go around singing these naats in order to wake people up for sehri during Ramazan. Hence while this does not happen now (because we have the emergency sirens and loud speakers) we celebrate this part of our culture.

here is an old version which translates the Arabic into both Urdu and English. This has been sung by many others in different countries.

Here is another one with a Canadian twist

Pakistani and Arab relation is akin to slave master relationship. Give your best shot if you think I'm wrong.

If you're not poor and look Arab, they will treat you fine. This is the general rule in the Gulf.

Knowing fus'ha also helps a lot.

He should have whipped you.

:D

slave- master...I think under slavery the slave isnt paid...But we all know Pakistan is paid in huge sums....ESP every time we are in trouble.

Not sure which master does that for his "slave"

A slave is paid in bread and water, in moderns times its $$$ to fight your wars and let them brainwash your youths into pointless race/sectarian war with Iran.

How do you define Pak-British ties then if i may ask?

The bias is not due to some uber nationalist views. The bias is simply religious and sometimes racial in nature. Arabs do not follow the ritualistic version of Islam, traditional in nature which is prevalent in Pakistan. Couple that with propaganda of persian saints who have promised greater things for people of indus when turks, farsi and uzbeks flock for jihad.

Pakistan still suffers from colonial bias and don't forget we have still have many British era laws inducing your favourite Blasphemy law sprinkled with a bit of Pakistani spices, our people have a inferior complex when it comes to the white skin. Every section of Pakistan society seem to be loyal to a different country rather then their own. That's where my problem is, why are Pakistanis willing to fight and die for Iran or Saudia. Both of these countries would never send their young men to fight and die if Pakistan was invaded by a foreign power.

Then everyone is a slave! Slave of fashion and what not!

But still not a slave, no?

lots of parades and songs and stuff.
The difference is between lots and little..but both celebrate.. there is no bias in this

Pakistanis are masters of projecting their own short comings and failures unto others. Hence, when you see a a Pakistani talking ignorant about Arabs or any other race, religion or nationality, most of the time they are just projecting their own short comings.
It is not restricted to Pakistanis, it is a negative human behavior..

Many Pakistanis believe that the Saudis have sponsored extremism/extremists in Pakistan (and worldwide) and they hold Saudis partly responsible for the ongoing terrorism/WoT in Pakistan.

Then there are those who are biased towards Arabs in general (and Saudis in specific) because of their sectarian affiliations.

And then there are those also who are not happy with the way Saudis treat/consider Bakistanis.

Regardless, the Saudis have been an ally to Pakistan and they have stood by Pakistan in times of need.
And Jealousy and resentment about wealth even if it is God given..These emotions most probably concern the Elite of Pakistan as well as the GCC Arabs..

I am quite curious to indulge in this topic. I have observed a certain bias towards Arabs in this Pakistani forum.

What do you think is the key driving factor towards this?

Thanks.
Good topic BTW..

I have never heard an Arab singing a Hymn.
I have seen Turks and Chechens doing Thikr in a circle singing. Which from my Islamic teachers is haram but...
Dhikr is not Haram by any means..It is just chanting the name of God.. Allah..Most Arabs do it once a year in their homes with family and very close friends.. but not on a big scale as in other Muslim parts..
