If that happens, India need to live with it like how India was living with US in Diego Garcia when both were in the opposite sides during the cold war. But mind it, China is not US or NATO in terms of military power or military alliance while India can be part of a powerful group made up of US, Japan and Vietnam. So it is not a one way street for China. China needs to be wary of the impact of having a base in Maldives. And Maldives need to wary of taking on India as well.

Neither did USA nor NATO ever had real-state dispute with india like china.Secondly like china usa/nato never fought overt war with india.Even if china is not equal at the level of usa nato combine it has successfully boxed in india for almost 5 decades in SA.As for china to be weary of india then the eartworms of Lutyens must leave chairs.8-+ years olds better spend their time in vanprasth rather than in the corridors of power.

If the powers sitting in Lutyens are not dynamic enough then no one can help India. India need to focus its energies in its look east policy to not to allow the situation of the past few decades repeated. It is doable but the will should be there .

Look up news for India Japan and US cooperation and the talks which started last year and in April in Tokyo and the most recent one on Oct 31st discussing maritime and economic cooperation. So it is not a fairytale scenario.
