Summery:Bangladesh Ansaar and VDP forces personnel strength crossed 6.1 million.As a single paramilitary forces, it is the largest in the world.Said by the chief of Ansaar and VDP forces, Major General Mizanur Rahman.This forces are performing a crucial role in maintaining internal security.They are now getting full military training.They are being preferentially recruited in other forces such as RAB, BGB etc.They are also being used to the services of armed forces.They are performing a crucial role in maintaining the security of railways and other vital installations.There is a bright opportunity to send them overseas as a trained manpower.

This is not about keeping all of them armed at all times.This is about training them on how to use arms and other basic training of a soldier, so that when the need comes they can easily swell the ranks of the army.They undergo basic training times to times to keep them well versed with weapons and military drills.So yes, at a given times there are only about 50k of them holding the gun.But the real number who will be able to use the arms spontaneously during the war times is hundred times greater than that.

Assuming bangladesh has a war with india or burma

but the problem is this would be very futile against say a highly populated country ie india. which has both large populace and a large army

this was usefull againist the nazis as there was more soviets than nazis in that time.

Why do you think Ansar is a joke? In 1971, half-pant wearing 560 of them were killed by the machine guns of PA troops in battles. Ansars fought only with only .303 rifles in those days. Today, they are well trained and are equipped with light weapons. They are certainly not joke.

Becuase BD does not have enough money to run payroll for 1.5 million strong military. Thats the whole concept

You do understand that during a state of war a country changes the way it functions and diverts a huge chunk of resources and man power to arms and ammunition production right? During peace times the Ansar helps law enforcement agencies and provides security to establishments that ask for government security. Why on earth should we waste resources in arming 6 million men(who are not actually members of the army in the first place) when we do not need them?
