Another one bites the dust.

Another MNA disqualified over fake degree

June 10, 2010

LAHORE: The election tribunal of the Lahore High Court disqualified PML-N MNA Syed Javed Hussnain for holding a fake degree.

The MNA’s bachelors degree was challenged in the Election Tribunal of LHC, headed by Nasir Saeed Sheikh.

The court disqualified Javed Hussnain after the degree was proven to be fake. Syed Javed Hussnain had been elected from NA-68 Sargodha, with more than 80,000 votes.

The court instructed for new elections to be held within two months in the same constituency.

Parliamentarians holding fake degrees has grown to become a serious issue in Pakistan with new cases of fake degrees being discovered many times in the recent past.

corruption, nepotism, lying, faking, misleading has become part & parcel of the ruling elites - its just like the children's story 'wolf is coming, wolf is coming, wolf is coming' - state the lie enough times, till it turns into a 'truth'!!!

this 'culture' is now 'embedded' in our society!!!

Musharraf's rule on university degree for elections was a ground breaking law for Pakistan. It will show its result in next 20 years when new crop of real degree holders politicians will run for elections. This current generation of fake degree holders did not know 20 years ago that degree law will be passed and their dream of public office will be crushed. Now Pakistani establishment has learned the additional value of education hopefully they will send their children to colleges and universities.

If i am not wrong that LAW was dissolved by Parliament.

ironically, while the law sounds good on paper, many countries including those in the western hemisphere (Canada/Europe) dont have a minimum education requirement.

From a logical point of view, it would technically better to have the more educated individuals in a nation (particularly a developing nation) in the forefront.

I seriously hope that these individuals get their pictures plastered on the front page of news outlets and a precedent is set(which in a matter of speaking, has already). Overall, the fact that these people have been exposed is a step in the right direction!

Last time i checked, you don't need to have a degree to be a MP in the mother of all parliments. This is a good idea, but if it is enforced correctly, at the moment it is a bit of a farce.

Yes the law on degrees for members of parliament was repealed by current government. The illiterate politicians have money and clout that PPP needed so the succumbed to their demands. Nonetheless these illiterate politicians are now well known and target for ridicule in press and media. The bar for next generation of parliamentarians have been raised that will be good thing for Pakistan.

I seriously think that in our scenario we need to have some criteria for voters as well. :coffee:

Education is necessary for the elected representatives but is Graduation really necessary.
They could have education till say 10th / O Levels or may be 10+2 / A Levels.

Graduation does not guarantee a Wise Politician.

BUT I DON'T BLAME THE FAKE DEGREE HOLDERS!! I BLAME THE PEOPLE WHO ELECT THEM!!!

ALL FAKE DEGREE HOLDERS HAVE BEEN REELECTED WITH A BIGGER MARGIN LOOK AT THE LIKES OF JAMSHED DASTI!!

for us fake degree holders are just a joke! no big deal! a liar is expected to be "honest" to his post! :hitwall:

no point trying to fix the leaders we need to fix the bloody people who vote for them!! they shouldn't complain if they happily reelect these morons!!

I guess it's a fair thing not to define educational qualifications for elected seats. That's how it is in most parts of the world. That being said, I think the real concern for you guys will not be the qualification requirement itself, but the mentality of people who don't mind forging degrees. If they don't have respect for your institutions (educational in this instance) while standing for elections, they won't have any respect for any other public institution at all.

The bachelor's qualification is no longer a requirement and was challenged before the elections. Since the case was sub-judice, the ECP demanded bachelors degrees from candidates and this resulted in people producing fake certificates. It is not a requirement but people who forged their way should be held accountable.

Besides the dis-qualification, there should be civil penalties on the people who committed fraud with the people, as recommended by the SC.

The Pandora's box is open. We might have a near mid-term election since many will be disqualified.

In addition, the religious certificate case must be handled as quickly as possibly. A lot of JUI(F) "ulama" made their way to the Parliament with 7-8 years of formal education and a 4 years "religious certificate".

in my opinion, government should pass a law for these idiots. I mean there is not any kind of punishment or penatly for these corrupt politicians who contested in elections with fake degree. Government/Court should send them behind bars for 6 months or something like that and ineligibl to stand in elections for the next 2 terms or a Fine!

or anything..... but not spare them like that
