Srinagar, April 30 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of Indian Army shot himself dead with his own revolver at Kalakote in Rajouri district, last night.

The incidents of suicide among Indian troops have increased manifold due to the fear of death, mental stress, tension, home sickness and the like. As per reliable statistics available with the official sources, over the last three years, one Indian soldier has been committing suicide almost every fifth day.

In Kulgam, bullet riddled body of an abducted civilian was recovered near Chogulpora village in Damhal Hanjipora. The decomposed body of another civilian was fished out from river Jhelum at Safakadal in downtown Srinagar.

In Ganderbal, a Special Police Officer was seriously wounded when unknown assailants attacked the heavily guarded residence of Ghulam Muhammad Lone, a leader of Peoples Democratic Party, headed by Mufti Mohammad Saeed. Lone and his family, however, escaped unhurt.

Meanwhile, the troops cordoned off the Peer Bagh and Hyderpora areas in Budgam and launched massive crackdown operations, today. The personnel restricted the movement of people and started conducting house-to-house searches. The operation was going on till last reports came in. Common people were subjected to severe torture and thrashing by the troops during another siege and search operation in Norwara area of Beerwah.

On the other hand,, the legal Aid Cell of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in a statement in Srinagar, today, condemned the re-arrest of four youth belonging to Sopore and Baramulla areas who were released under the orders of the High Court of the occupied Kashmir few days ago.

That's very much possible. But even if it's true still his mental stability is questionable at best.

Why drag up such a thread? Anyway a sad fact of modern warfare (especially urban and CT ops as IA is routinely operating) is that it imposes IMMENSE pressure on individuals and that human beings just aren't designed to cope with such pressure over such protracted periods of time- and every man has their breaking point. The fact is though this is just as common in other armies US/UK for example. In US suicide rates amongst soldiers returning home from 15 MONTH deployments in Iraq/Afghanistan are alarming aswell as the violence and substance abuse issues. And here in the UK HALF our prison population are ex-Gulf War (1st-1991)/Falklands War veterans. PTSD is a real problem amongst returning HEROS (regardless of nation) and, sadly, not much is know an treatments or identification of it.

My friend is a clinical psychologist who works in NHS and sees a lot of vetrans and he tells me how it is nearly impossible to tell from the outside who is suffering from PTSD until, unfortunately, it is too late.
