Imperial Japan ability to wage war was curtailed after the Communist Red Army sabotaged and destroyed their huge manufacturing bases in North Eastern China.

Japan via Russia had delivered a letter to USA offering to surrender but USA ignored the letter.

My guess is: USA wanted to test the true power of this new WMD toys they just acquired.

They were not satisfied with the result of the first exploslon and proceed to test another one in Nagasaki.

An other joke of this century is, USA accuses Iran and other free countries of possible (Not Proven) possession of nuclear weapons. The only country that has used NUKE against infants and elderly is throwing baseless accusations on others. It is beyond laughable, beyond stupid and beyond sad at the same time.
