Well, they talked about elected representatives...........Do you know Hitler too was an elected representative? But if there is not enough clauses to make the representatives accountable, they will become autocrats too......Democracy is government of the people, by the people, for the people. But when the government becomes detached from the people it is just ..."OFF the people BUY the people, FAR the people".

Today, our politicians have made a seperate class for themselves and that is detached from people. Do not you wonder when they campaign to increase their salary and other benefits forgetting mutual differences??? Political system is a dynamic thing, since the age of Plato we are searching best political system. And there is no gurantee that just having democracy and having elected representatives will solve all problem. Just tell me if it is all well, how can people like Aun Gawli or Shahabuddin become people's representatives??

And the Lokpal is no autocratic organization. It's composition is to be specified , its selection committe is to be specified, as well as process of its removal...... We already have similar organization ...example ' Election Commission' ..... And the points Hazare has raised are valid (plz see...someone has already posted)...it will prevent Lokpal from being a white elephant....

YOu know what....let government continue and the investigation continue side by side......when a minister is finally charged, the minister gets removed form the post and taken to court. Till he is found innocent of all charges, his seat is filled by someone else. Look its not perfect. but 50 yrs instead of just copying the Brit Gov't system, the Babus should have streamlined government. We have the greatest minds on Earth, we can make democracy better.....and more effective.

Agreed. Hitler was elected by the people. Which makes the German people responsible for his acts. Similarly, it is all of us who are responsible for the acts of our elected representatives.

I disagree Individuals would be great but we lack a great system to weed out corrupt individuals effectively. LOOK AT INDIVIDUALS LIKE GEORGE FERNADEZ, GENERAL KAPOOR, LALOO, KOTA, ETC. YOU WANT FOLKS LIKE THIS.....THE LIST GOES ON AND ON AND ON....AND THESE ARE INDIVIDUALS...This bill by Anna clearly attacks the issues that prevent individuals of the right character from coming into any selection process.
