ANF seizes huge cache of drugs in operations across country

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Saturday launched seven operations across country and recovered a huge cache of narcotics including 10.6 tonnes of charas, 517kg of morphine, 55kg of opium and 930g of methamphetamine.


The operations also resulted in seizure of three vehicles and arrest of 10 persons involved in drug trafficking. The worth of the recovered drugs amounts approximately to Rs 26 billion in international market. Most of the recovered drugs were intended to be smuggled to foreign destinations. The current drug seizure is the biggest ever catch in one day.


The ANF Quetta launched an intelligence-based operation at Killi Salman Khel, Tehsil Gulistan, Qilla Abduallah and seized 7,830kg of charas. According to reports, the drug was concealed at a barren site located in the complex mountainous area outside the populated area. The drug was stuffed in a large number of plastic sacks. As per the preliminary reports, the drug consignment was to be shifted to some coastal area of Sindh for final disposal to some foreign location across the sea.


The ANF Quetta in another intelligence-led operation, seized 517kg of morphine from uninhabited area of Killi Sobian, Tehsil & District Chaghi. According to reports, the drug consignment comprised 11 plastic sacks, each containing 47kg of morphine. It was stocked at a desolate site situated in the cuttings of mountainous terrains far away from the populated area. As per the initial information, the consignment was to be smuggled to some foreign location after having been shifted to a safe location along the coastal belt of Balochistan.


The ANF Karachi carried out a successful intelligence-led operation and seized a passenger bus bearing registration No TKU-042 near the Hub River Road, Raees Goth, Karachi. During a comprehensive search of the vehicle, 2,758kg of charas and 55kg of opium were recovered from the improvised cavities beneath the floor of the bus. Three accused persons namely Muhammad Naeem, resident of Quetta, Barkat Ali, resident of Jacobabad, and Syed Fayyaz Hussain, resident of Karachi, were arrested on the spot. The bus was coming from Quetta and was heading towards Karachi. As per reports, the drugs were intended to be despatched abroad.


The ANF Rawalpindi Road Check Team during an information-based operation, arrested a professional drug carrier named Ajab Din, resident of Kohat at Haji Shah Mor, GT Road, Attock, and recovered 6kg of charas concealed in his luggage. As per the preliminary investigation, the accused is involved in transportation of drugs from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to Punjab.


The ANF Rawalpindi Road Check Team also intercepted a motorcyclist named Imran Khan, resident of Jhelum at Jada Chowk, GT Road, Jehlum, and recovered 1.2kg of charas from him. Reportedly, the accused is involved in peddling of drugs at local level.


The ANF Peshawar Team captured a Honda Civic car bearing registration No B-5960 near Bilour Plaza, Saddar, Peshawar, and recovered 450g of methamphetamine tactfully concealed in a bag. The operation resulted in the arrest of 3 persons namely Manzar Khan and Farooq Khan, residents of Mardan, and Muhammad Siddique, resident of Nowshera. As per the initial investigation, the drug was destined for Saudi Arabia through air cargo.


The ANF Peshawar also intercepted a Toyota Corolla car bearing registration No CX-645 near Railway Crossing, Bara Road, Peshawar, and recovered 480g of methamphetamine and 40g of heroin concealed in a suitcase. The operation resulted in the arrest of two persons namely Jannat Gul, resident of Mardan, and Shah Khalid, resident of Charsada. As per the initial investigation, the drug was destined for Saudi Arabia through air cargo. Cases have been registered against all the detainees at the respective ANF police stations and further investigations are under process.
