PM Imran aims to form conclusive anti-drug policy

RAWALPINDI: On Monday Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed the liaison officers and youth ambassadors of Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Headquarters in Chaklala. Federal Minister for Narcotics Control and senior officials of ANF attended the event.

Director General ANF Major General Muhammad Arif Malik briefed the prime minister on the operations of ANF for control of smuggling of narcotics across the country. He informed the steps taken by ANF to ensure drug-free society.
In his address, Prime Minister Imran Khan reassured that the government would formulate a strategy for countering the problem of drug abuse among young people. Prime Minister Imran Khan vowed to save future generations from corruption and narcotics calling these problems as “cancer of society”.


Prior, the prime minister inaugurated the new building of ANF Headquarters and laid a wreath on the memorial of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

Adding further, Prime Minister divulged that pertinent ministries including of education and health would be taken onboard to chalk-out the policy in view of mounting trend of drug abuse at educational institutes.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also revealed his plans saying that he would call a meeting next week to discuss ways to address the challenge of narcotics on urgent basis and he added that “The government will run an anti-drug campaign across the country and the entire nation will fight this menace as a united force”.

While emphasizing on the need for raising consciousness among the masses, particularly youth, about the negative impacts of drugs in personal and social lives. Through this awareness future generations could be saved from chains of drug abuse.

Prime Minister Imran Khan also expressed grave concern over rising number of cases of drug addicts reported at schools and universities.

While addressing the public gathering, Prime Minister Imran also added that as informed by Inspector General of Police, the situation of the use of synthetic drug ‘ice’ by schoolchildren besides university students was alarming as it could leave a disastrous impact on their education and health.

In addition to this, Imran Khan also commented that even million drug addicts in the country in fact meant suffering and misery of the same number of families. Calling narcotics as silent killer, he added that, its damage inflicted upon the addicts and the society. Prime Minister Imran Khan also highlighted the role of society saying that it had a significant role in promotion of negative trends by accepting earning of money through illegal ways and corruption. He assured that the government would improve the flow of resources required to counter peril of drug abuse in the country.

In his address, Prime Minister Imran Khan also praised the efforts of ANF in eradicating drug abuse, though the efforts of an institution alone could not produce results unless the efforts put in by society itself as the biggest deterrent, he concluded.
