M-MRCA will not see induction till 2014, if negotiations are concluded and contract awarded by 2012.. Till then its these babies who will be defending our homeland..

MiG-29 is old, but certainly will be lethal again after these upgrades. We need to get the MRCA done as soon as possible however.

The Mig-29 is just as combat effective as an F-16 .

these upgrades will give the aircraft more state of the art systems and Multi-role capabilities.

MMRCA is needed to replace our ageing force of Mig-21's

Mig-29 will be with the IAF will into 2030. Most likely be retired along side the Mirage.

It's not ready developed I think, also why upgrade fighters with a life of 10 - 15 year only with AESA? If it would be ready and available, Mig 29Ks would have them already.

Here is a list of radars Phazotron makes, several of them can indeed track 30 targets, if older radars made by Phazotron can track 30 targets then there is no reason why the latest Phazotron can't track the same amount or more, i have read through countless sources and all say the ZHUK-AE can track 30 targets.

Actually the wiki specs confirms that only the latest version of Zhuk ME, the MFS and Zhuk AE are able to track 30 targets and engage 6!

Zhuk-MFS (Export Designation Zhuk-MFSE)

Upgrade of the Zhuk-M radar, the Zhuk-MFS offers detection performance up to 180 km vs a 5 m2 RCS target with up to 30 targets tracked and up to 6 attacked at once in air to air mode. In air to surface mode the radar offers a modest 5 km detection range improvement over the Zhuk-M vs tanks. The radar has a weight of 305 kg and a scanning area of +/- 70 degrees in azimuth and elevation.[5] The radar uses a PESA antenna, which has a diameter of 980 mm with a peak power output of 8 kW[4] with 16 carrier frequencies. The Zhuk-MFS(E) has been offered as an alternative radar for the MiG-31 interceptor as opposed to the standard N007 Zaslon radar.[6]

The question is, can our older Mig 29s integrate the Zhuk MFE with a diameter of 980mm and which of these is the Zhuk M2E that Ironmans source was talking about?
