Actor Amitabh Bachchan and actress Katrina Kaif have been invited for the annual Literary and Cultural Conference to be held in Lahore, organisers said.

According to a report in Dawn newspaper, Bachchan, 71, and Kaif are among the many foreign dignitaries, who may attend the event organised by the Lahore Arts Council.

The organisers are hopeful that both Bachchan and Kaif will attend the proceedings in Lahore.

"We have sent invitations to 12 personalities from India, mostly writers, including two prominent faces from Bollywood -- Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif. Hopefully they will attend the conference," Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi, Programmes Deputy Director, said.

Other personalities who have been sent invitations include Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi and Shamim Hanfi.

This year, the conference is themed around nostalgia, and the title is 'Beetay Huway Din Yaad Atay Hain'.

Renowned people from all fields have been invited to speak at the conference, which will be held from May 24-26 at the Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall.

For Nawaz sharif and the co all culture starts with Lahore and ends with Lahore.

Sounds a bit like Bollywood.

Cram the place with the Punjabi dynasties of Kapoors, Chopras and done :D

Isn't amitabh half Punjabi ?

Not much to do with Sharifs. Punjabis and Punjabi cities have rich culture. You can see that in both Pakistan and India.

I think on his mother's side.

India does have several linguistic based Film Industries, so stories from a Tamil, Telugu Marathi, Keralite and Gujarati perspectives can be told.

What Bollywood does is sell a fantasy based cinema, and in no way should be cnsidered art. while I do listen to the occasional song, watch the occasional film, I watch Malayalam films as I am a Keralite. So I can watch movies that reflect anxieties that uniquely represent a Malayali's problems.

You are not going to see a Muslim or a Christian much in a Bollywood film. But since both groups make up 45% of Kerala's population they can't be ignored in our state :)
