Well It depends upon which area of the country you are in. If you are Chinese and less than 1% of the student body is Chinese of course people may ask you silly questions like that. The kids in my daughter's class ask the girl whose parents are from Nepal where she is from even though she was born here. BTW she looks Indian vs Chinese.

Edit: Now that I think about it my wife (who is Chinese) asked the girl's parents where they are from. How's the irony in that! I just assumed they had an Indian background so i never thought of asking.
